THE  Taintra / SKYE WILKINSON DEDICATION THREAD

As many of you will now gather, Skye Wilkinson,  Taintra has very sadly passed away. One of her close GFX friends Bea  beatrizmatar has already started a thread regarding Skye [ BAD NEWS ] if you want further details. This topic is not in contention with Bea's thread.

A number of suggestions in the Bad News thread, SayWhat chat page and numerous emails and PMs have been made regarding dedications to Skye by the many, many people she befriended at GFX in her time with us. The idea of this thread is for just this purpose.

Here you can talk about your friendship with her. You can post images or poetry, or even links to music/whatever. This is simply a thread dedicated to Skye from her friends at GFX Artist.

I've been fortunate enough to have had Skye as my friend in GFX for some time and I was shocked by her sudden passing. I will miss her very, very much. Like most good people in life, she has left many footprints in sands that will not be easily washed away, nor forgotten.

Bless you Skye, my lovely friend.
Xris

This would be a kind request to Martin and your GFX colleagues I should think. There has been a suggestion made by Elite kittyKat regarding a commemorative flash banner dedicated to Skye for a while?

Another idea has been put forward that her GFX portfolio might be exclusively cycled through the 'Random Artworks' windows for perhaps 24 hours or more? I'm not even sure if there is provision in the site coding to create the necessary overides for such tasks?

Many thanks, Xris

I never knew her that close like you Xris, but she was such a talented young woman.
This news hit me hard like a lightning bolt simply because, like Bea said, we live so far but feel so close.
She was 24, she was living her life, she was making art...then the time came...
I just wanna quote for her, one of my fav songs, from Sarah McLachlahn;

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there

Rest in Peace Skye...

ps: I like your idea, hopefully Martin will approve it:)

This is the letter i received from her friend Tundra. And other artist of Southafica and her best friend there.
And this is all I know.
"Bad news

Dear Beatriz

I'm sorry that you are the first person on gfx that I tell this, but I didn't know where else to turn .I don’t really know how to tell you this but Taintra or Skye Wilkinson as you knew her on gfx died on Wednesday. All I know at the moment is that she was ill and very weak, but I never thought she would not survive. I know you exchanged mail a lot because she told me and even showed me a picture of you when I went to visit her. She was my best friend. I know she had a lot of friends and enemies on gfx. But generally I know she was a friend to a lot of people in this community. She always said it was so unfair that even her worst work would do very well just because of her popularity. Is there a way we can set up a something on the site to let everybody know? I don’t really know the administrators or anybody else on the site for a matter of fact. Can please help me. I will let you know if I have any new details. Everything is just very confusing to me now.

Thank you
Anandie

I dont know how to react. I really dont know. I am shocked!!!!

The news is very sad and depressing for me. Even though I did't know her well and never seen or met her, she was special for me. I am new here and know only couple of people. She was the one woth whom I chatted first and she was my first friend here. This was just two weeks ago.

IWhat ever impression I made of her was of a very talented, nice, kind hearted, bold and beautiful girl.
She was so young and this news has thrown me completely off the track.

I commented on her artwork and criticised it for not using much textures and she promised me to include more of them in her next work. I also told her to put up her animation work and she said she will. I never imagined that htis could happen.

This is such a great loss for me. I have lost a friend, an artist and a wonderful wonderful person.

May she rest in peace.
I pray for her.........

Thank you guys for all your support.I'll be sure to relay all your thoughts to her loved ones at home.I knew she had a lot of friends here, but I never imagined this scale of responce.

Her memorial service is to be held on monday. And I will keep you updated as soon as I learn more.

I would just like to make 1 correction she was infact 21 years old and would have turned 22 on the 13th of November.

Skye first caught my attention as 'that weird chick with a fascination for rats...' . Ironically I quite like rats now, after a thorough and complete rat re-education :p

Of course Skye never was weird (at least not by the standards of this mad-house ), though she often depreciated her own fine artistic skills whilst favouring and admiring other artists and their works.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to know her for a while and to be on the receiving end of her gentleness, kindness and good humour. Skye and I connected well, due to our interests in inks and general ink illustration techniques although she, unlike myself, was further talented in many other mediums. She had that fine quality found in many good artists in her innate need to study her art and achieve new skills and targets.

Her humour was evident to all those who knew her. I remember her once accompanying myself and Nick Powernemo (among others) carrying out 'virtual' meatball surgery on a sleeping Mike Kurlowski one night in live chat, using an assortment of surgical instruments; hairdryers, food-mixers, a Black & Decker(c) powerdrill and a salami. Yeah - you had to be there :p

Her passing has shocked and deeply upset many of us here at GFX and perhaps reminds us that there is rarely time to say that last goodbye. Perhaps our best opportunity to say goodbye is to remember to say "Hi!" and pass on at least a smile to everyone we meet along the way, every day of our lives. I never had the chance to say goodbye to Skye, but I know that we've parted in gentle spirits nonetheless, because Skye always said her "Hi's" and gave us her smiles, easily, freely and frequently.

Thanks Skye, you're a bright and beautiful star. Hugs, Xris

I dedecated a painting to her, it's the best way I could think of honuring a fellow artist.

Those are beautiful words Xris.
I remember Skye as the girl always babbeling with Nick/ powernemoabout 3D stuff. She always wanted to learn new ways and to improve her skills. All that babbeling used to turn my brain inside out cause I didnt understand a thing! ...renders and mapping and textures... She was joyful and charming. I never ever could have imagined that she, so young would go away so soon. Death is selfish, always want to have the good souls for its own. Maybe.. because it has a much greater mission for her than here on earth.

This is very sad news indeed. Somehow our presence on a site like this always has a sense of immortality. Only a number indicates how young or old we are and only our words give a glimpse of how we physically feel.

My condolences to her family and relatives. Even though we exchanged little words, I'm happy that we had the priviledge of her staying here. You leave us with a part of you recorded here at GFXartist like a home video by which we can remember you. Rest in peace.

I will create a big feature that points to this thread. For some reason links to Skye's profile are consciously or subconscioulsy omitted. Xris, I have edited your thread to include taintra's member tag. Through this thread people can access our memories of her as well as here presence here.

I am at a loss for words. It's strange to feel so sad over the loss of someone you never knew. My thoughts are with her family and friends. May they find comfort to know that she was so well loved here.

Finally thank you again for the link adjustment, which I had omitted in the confusion and upset.

Wow... I hadn't been here for a while, and hadn't noticed.
This is most unfortunate, and very, very sad. She was one of the friendliest persons on this site, and she had fantastic artworks. She was a friend, always supportive, always with new ideas and suggestions, and she put a lot of time into all of her work.

My deepest and most sincere condolences go to her family and friends. Know that she made an impression on all of us, and will be remembered.

Måns.
