That sucks! so many artwork on that site!! the thing that annoys me the most is what is written on the first page:
Welcome to Photo Casket. Below are all of our categories. Click the link or the picture and search for what suits you best. This website was designed specifically so you can add images to your personal page or blog. Just choose your image, copy the code and you are ready to rock and roll.

as if they did all the hard work, as if they owned the artworks! Absolutely stupid, those people don't respect artists. They even stole Diane?! should be put to jail :p

Thanks for creating this thread!
The fact that I have been stolen is not that important (if I were the only one I would have sent them a nasty e-mail telling them that they would have serious problems if they didn't take it off) but MANY artists have been ripped! ALL the pictures have been taken without any permissions and they are doing profit with these stolen artworks! My bro had also done the whois thing, I was about to post it here, but it has already been done so there's no need to post it twice ;)
I'm really upset to see so many works ripped, there is no respect at all for the artists....
I'm writing an e-mail to the admins of this sh**** website (I just hope that I can find their e-mail address) and I'll try to post the links to all the works I have recognised here if it can be useful.... If all the artists do the same it may work indeed.
Too bad that art can't be shared without being stolen :(

Hum, I don't understand that part... You bro did what?
ARE TEHY ACTUALLY EARNING MONEY OUT OF IT??? of course, look at how it is filled with advertisement!
At first, I just though; "they're just displaying art" but know that I know they are earning money with that site, I can't help but be very pissed off. This is literaly stealing! making money effortlessly. I read DA's thread and I see gfx is not the only victim. the bad thing about internet is that it's very hard to make laws apply, police has no power in those situations...

Jordan : the "whois thing" I was talking about can help somebody find the identity of the owner of the website. Since my brother is a geek (and a great one btw ) I had asked him to help us find their identity. I was about to post the result of his search here, but I've seen that someone had already done it.

Abuse report sent!!!! Please can everybody do the same? The more we'll be to do so, the faster they'll take this sh*** down.
I've seen Kalomus, NoahKh and many other artists' works, I'm doing a list then I'll send you an e-mail to inform them.
Thanks again Pam!

I urge every artist to create a ticket per stolen artwork and to add a screenshot of that work at photocasket. You can find calpop's help system here:

https://help.calpop.com/

For the record, I have also created a general ticket describing the current situation. Should I get any follow ups, I'll let you know.

eventually they might come up with a way to stop stuff like this from happening :/
just show no mercy whenever you see someone stealing artwork. If they say they got it from somewhere else then they should know that someone drew it in the first place, since art just doesn't draw itself. soon enough they will start to notice more and more people getting fined or shut down. maybe the authorities will make greater penalties for this, maybe common sense will keep them from doing this without the artist consent, or maybe they just wont care and keep doing it. people should know artists aren't just pushovers and are going to fight back if thework is stolen. this is only my opinion though, i dont know much else about this because noone would bother to steal my artwork. well good luck anyways on getting this problem settled.

Calpop's rather silly reply to my ticket was:

Sergey Network 02/26 19:13 - Have you contacted the website owner ?

I think we can expect little from calpop unless each artist personally claims their work and accuses calpop of facilitation the distribution.

Hi,

i don`t know why you artists have problems with that stuff, they just use it for fun and don`t make money whit it.
Don`t be so sensitive and see it as promotion.

Nice greets.

Re: more stolen art works photocasket.com Avatar
Martin | 02/28/2007 @009 | Editedit post
Amolas, it is a matter of respecting ones rights. Artists put time and effort in the works they create and as such own the rights to these works. For people to take them and do with them as they please is a violation of these rights. Promotion or not, it should be up to the artists to decide where they want their works to be displayed.

In your way of thinking it would also be alright to distribute other peoples music, or movies or software. Fortunately the law says otherwise.

Unless an artist offers you his work with the intentions to have it spread around the web, you have to respect his/her rights and ask for permission on a case-by-case basis.

Re: more stolen art works photocasket.com Avatar
Amolas | 02/28/2007 @063 | Editedit post
For me it is not the same, because I´m an artist who is doing art in the free time and just for fun and not for money. Art is for me lifestyle - not profession. I wouldn`t have a problem if someone would use my art.
So i can't understand the artists who are thinking in that way, sorry.

I think that there is a different because if you buy art, you buy it in a combination with something (print out, booklet, magazin - whatever). And the resolution is also much higher, so it is for me OK. This images on the net are for me the same as you are watching MTV, there you can also hear musik, without paying for it. Or if you looking TV, you see also films without paying for it. So in that medias there are possiblities to consume art without paying for it
In the matter of software you have the possiblity to use OSS and free Software or buying limited Editions.

Why is there not a way to public digital art in a different way, so that everyone knows how he can use it?
With or without limitations, that would be fine.
So i would also accept, if someone says: "No, please don`t use this art in any kind!".
But i think that a lot of people who are responsible for that sites didn`t know that they are not allowed to do this.
So there is not the problem that they didn`t respect the artists, they don`t know that they are doing something against the law.

If there exists anything about ArtLicense or something else, please let me know.

[edit]:

I hope you know what i mean, so i mean a standard system for that and not just the "All rights reserved to BLABLA". Forexample if you public something under a special License, so that it is not possible to link to that image or to click "save as" and stuff like that.

Nice greets.

Amolas... you can assign a 'Creative Commons' licence to your artwork. This allows you to specify that your artwork may be used 'with limitations'. You can find details here....

Amolas they are making money off of other peoples art works.
'google ads' thats photocasket site is number one for posting comments at myspace
trust me ok??
they are making lots of money and they have no right using other peoples works to do so
end of story

you said: But i think that a lot of people who are responsible for that sites didn`t know that they are not allowed to do this.

------------
this is bull they KNOW this is why they have NO email on the site they took off all their contact off their domain name they are hiding and for good reason people from around the world are hounding them to stop they wont they don't care. the site asks you to snail mail them many people have and the art works are still there. photocasket is fully aware of what they are doing.

@Traff:

thank you, sounds interesting ;-)

@kittyKat:

OK, if they make money with this pictures, then it is not ok,
because the artists did the most work, and not they.

Probably this is not the only site on the web.
