Trying to add lighting effect

I tried but cant do it...can someone help me out please...What i'm trying to do is take my sig i got of the lighting bolts and make them come to life with effects...like have them turn brighter every so often....can someone help me with this..I have pcs2 but thats not helping..

But for a general idea of what ya need.

This is going to sound dumb but... you cant see light... Not on its own...

as it travels in relativly straight lines..

You can however se objects affects on light...

For example.. the steam in a cloud would refract the lgith giving a haze...

the you have your bolt itself with the ionized gases lighting up to pure light... (White light)

The excess which is the coloured light... (Dependant on the atmosphere. Ours is blue so the lightning apppears blue)

And lastly if your going for overkill you can always add in a sonic sound wave effect accompanied by of course the contact explosion

Lightning is a simple enough effect if you have Photoshop and Image Ready, but I'm sure the basic technique can be used with any .gif animation program.

Here is a really good Lightning Tutorial, and here's just one example of what you can do with it:
