Hello there, I was searching here in Gfx and found a fan-art piece of "Poison Ivy", later I learned that there is a challenge about her in Da (at http://pamzylove.deviantart.com/) and in 15 min I did this sketch with pencil I would like to know your opinions about it, it's non-realistic style which I haven't drawn since I was 12 ... so I'm not sure, it may look totally off and if that's the case I won't colour it in computer, but what do you think?

Started colouring the image... basic colours Next step... I fixed a chin problem, worked more on the face and changed some colours, but the lighting of the face isn't finished yet. I want the face to look realistic but not that much to fit the style all coloured so far in gimp with custom brushes and mouse no opinions?

I think it's working well so far! I would suggest that you block all the colours first before going into any detailed shading...like...block the flesh colours, green, red, whatever.....rather than block one section and then complete it and do another, because in the end it tends to make the painting look disjointed

Oh well that makes sense, I started like this as if it was a traditional drawing, in parts, I'm a noob when it comes to painting in computer Will definately follow your advice thanks a lot!

Looks very nice so far. At this point it's better not just to concentrate on the face but to stay with the hole picture. Yes, I know. Self-discipline. I don't have it myself.

sorry, can't update now, I've many exams this week ... anyway... I have coloured the whole image as Kay suggested, but before going into detail, do you think the anatomy is off? I'm very worried about that now

Yup, the anatomy is off. The position of the breasts is impossible, the picture shows no idea of joints, bone or muscle structure ... Boom. Shock. Panic. Okay, now the good news: anatomy is knowledge, and noone has taught it to you by now, so you can't have this knowledge. It is something you don't learn on the fly. In fact it is something you will never stop learning. What I see is the picture done by a girl talented high above average, who does a good job with nice feeling. So stop worrying. Everything is just fine.

Thanks all! Thorsten: Thanks a lot for your sincere critique and feedback . I knew the positioning would look weird since I changed it 4 times and ended exaggerating proportions and positioning to fit comic style (I failed at that though ). I will try to fix it later. Here's a small update: The background is rushed in a separate layer just to get an idea of the colours as Kay suggested, so sorry for the messy look of it , I have very little time to work on this painting...

looking really awesome Blanca! I really love what you did with her face so far! and yeah, blocking colours like this makes you get an idea of the whole colour scheme, which in the end gives you a better idea of how the whole pic will look like when it's finished can' wait to see it done

Thanks Daykan, Kay, Diegoth and Thorsten Sorry for no updating in such a long time Working in the computer is so hard to me with a mouse, and the process is really slow... But here is an update: I worked a bit on hair, used more interesting colours on the background and worked on it... I think I have done about 25% of the painting now Edit: Forgot to say, I sharpened a bit the picture for the web, cause the jpg file makes it look quite flat. I also tried to add a texture to the tree in the left bottom corner but it didn't worked very well so that's why it looks like that [Message edited on 06/20 @838]
