Akihiko Yoshida style speedpaint thing Avatar

Was feeling experimental today, so decided to try my hand at something in the style of Akihiko Yoshida's art from Vagrant Story, an example of which you can see here.

It's quite quick and rough, but I think I did okay. What do you guys reckon?

Time taken: about 1 hour
Tools: 0.5 mechanical pencil, Photoshop brush tool.

P.S. Check out my gallery for examples of my usual style, if you want something to compare it to.

It's nice^^ tho I think the head is too big for the body...or the other way around.

Huzzah for replies three months after posting Yeah, I think the head is a touch, but I'll be damned if I'm changing it now :p

Well mate, I was about to say this is a step backwards for you, then I saw the post date LOL.

Prime example of what I was on about before though. Girls should have round bottoms not square ;)

Look at the link you posted here, you can see how rounded her bottom is, look at how curvy her thighs and calves are.

This was definitely still in a 'Philby' style.

OMG, this is a WAY too old thread! Philip, dear, I, MYSELF, do not like the way you draw eyes. I think everybody around here already know how addicted I am to this part of the body, so I'm kinda obsessed with it. I'll say: your eyes look glassy. How? I explain: they look nowhere, are always the same size, never a little closed or a little more opened, never ever diffderent. Eyes give such a good expression to characters you should improve it! And you draw'em just too big. I know you like this manga style, but I mean, the widht of the drawings, even the manga's should be smaller. The manga eyes are large but not really wide. Keep up!

No offense, this is really blocky and rough . . . is it a girl or a boy?!

given the limited time you used, aikihiko, it is quite nice

I would probably adjust the character's eye a little bit

for some inspiration you might check http://www.human-anatomy-for-artist.com

Thanks for the comments, I'll take them on board, even though this pic is nigh on a year old now, and I'd completely forgotten about this thread XD I know it's rough and all that, and I know I don't do the best eyes, but they do particularly suck on this image. Eyes are something I've been trying to improve on recently, though I don't know how successful I've been.
