So the reward for this is you really saving a buck hoping that some young artist will do the work for free with the illusion it will be a great portfolio entry.

If you dont' want to pay for someone to do work for you, just say so. :|

Lol, you have to stop bashing every post that you personally don't like. Just don't say anything and let them advertise ;P

It's a public forum and you have to expect people to reply. Positive or negative it's going to happen.

To pose this job as a contest is a tired old scenario to prey on those who are new to doing freelance work. I'm assuming the best in that his site is nonprofit, so at least he's not going to make money off of it. My reply of disagreement is probably the nicest phrased one he'll get here as similar posts have been flamed far worse.

If you wish to have a discussion on post ethics you can pm me. Otherwise let's keep this thread on topic.

Freeloader, no artwork... Delete this thread and ban him. Sorted.

Unless a hard line is taken these jokers will continue to get away with their sneaky tricks.

ok then guys you are right im not going to lie......

Im sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone. I just saw that there are some really really nice artists in here and thought if they would like to help out a poor college student who is just trying to get a new website started up. I didnt know it was like some exclusive community who doesn't like me or my crappy website.

So once again I apologize if this had offended anyone.

If you just said, "Hey does anyone want to help with my site?" you wouldn't have gotten such a harsh response. Dressing it up with the illusion of 'contest!' was what turns most people off. You may not realize it yourself, but many people will post very similar messages in the hopes of just getting some free artwork done.

What might seem like a 'little bit of work' to you is hours for that artist coming up with an idea and developing it.

My suggestion:
Request this thread to be deleted and then repost with the simple request for help with your site. You might find a fellow sports fanatic that would be more than willing to.

I though the job of a moderator was to MODERATE, not insult. How about a simple suggestion like the second one posted about reposting the thread worded differently. Not many people actually realize the whole contest scam, and Kittykat; I am by far fed up with you fucking snotty attitude on this site.
You do nothing by walk around on your fucking high horse and speak down to anyone who rubs you the wrong way, so get off your fucking ass, get some excersize, and lay off the people who are simply just trying to keep the fucking peace.
Anyway. I'm out, because I know I'm going to get some fucked up, piece of shit response from you or anyone else with their head so far up their ass they don't have a grip on reality. This is why I avoid the artist community.

GAWD.
To the ones who have been nothing but kind and welcoming, thanks for the chats. You're great artists and I hope to bump into you on other occasions.

Thank you Wysiwyg for clarifying. I honestly did not mean to put down anyone skills and I appreciate all the artwork that everyone in this forum has done. At the same time though, I posted this thread in the beginning because I was unaware of what this forum has defined as a contest (and still dont know, since no rules are posted) and that some monetary compensation must be provided, next time I post on this board I will make sure that I provide some form of money to the winner (unless what im doing is allowed). What I suggest is that the moderators or administrator specify the RULES for posting on this board as like a sticky topic, that way people will not be as confused, like myself, as to what really is defined as a contest. In the meantime people need to calm down, as I really dont see what the big deal is, but to make matters easier I will do what you suggested and I will edit my content to make it more clear to this online community.

Once again, thanks and sorry for anything wrong I did.

Then allow me to explain. You go to a carpentry site (should such a thing exist) and say, "Right, I'm running a contest to see who can build me a great dining table and chair set. Post photos of your work and the reward for the winner is to have their table and chairs in my living room so that me and my family can use them, and I'll tell all my mates about them too." What response do you imagine you'd get? Do you think it would make the responses on this thread seem a) harsh or b) very mild indeed. Hint, the answer is b).

Just because you're asking for artwork doesn't make it any different. The point you raise about contests is irrelevant, because this isn't one. This is you, trying to get a logo for free. Either say it like it is or don't say it at all.

@Chicken
These types of personal attacks are totally uncalled for, if you feel so adamant in your feelings towards another member, take it to pm's but do not hijack another persons thread with net-drama. Continued malicious attacks such as this will not be tolerated.

@mas I'm going to close this topic, and apologize for it's hijacking. Feel free to make a new thread as you see fit, and you can post it in the Job threads. There is a sticky thread there with guidelines for any clarification you may need. If you need any more help, pm me, (I'll be gone most of the EST day Sat).
