The Gammatron Cleric Avatar
Wallace | 09/09/2007 @955 | Edit edit post
Hi all!:)

I finally have some free time to do some of my own stuff,
and this gives me the opportunity to do what I really like: line-art/ comic style.
After all the painting this is a welcome return for me:)
And I felt like sharing you the progressions steps.

This is a drawing/sketch based on the movie 'Equilibrium' (2002, courtesy: Miramax Films)
A nice little gem that got overlooked.
it features the awesome Gun-Fu, a combination of martial arts and using fire-arms.

This will be inked and coloured with PS, stay tuned for more

ps those weird looking T shaped gun flares are an essential detail that featured throughout the movie

Vincent

Edit:
It's Grammaton not Gammatron, sorry for this mistake!

Ah, Equilibrium. Gotta love those gun-kata moves, eh?
This is a promising work, Vince, I'm sure it'll be as awesome as your other works once finished.
My only prob's that the left foot's position kinda bothers me.

Since this is not finished yet the guy's pose looks a bit stiff, specially his upper right (left to the viewer)...and not sure about the angle of the gun he is holding on his left hand (right to the viewer)...or was he intending to have it tilted slightly?
Looking forward to see this completed...forgive me for mistaking it for Matrix >_<

Mert: thanks for the input, which foot are you mentioning? left or right for viewer?

Maridol: The 'stiffness'is essentially the style that is used in the movie.
A nice inside information is that the choreographer was specialized in 'hard karate', so the moves
were tight and angled instead of smooth as the director has envisioned, so there was a clash so to speak.

Not sure what to say about the guns, I just wanted them to point straight to the right.

Thanks!

Right for the viewer. Looks like half the foot isn't touching the ground to me. Might be just me, tho.

But I, being poor, have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

Awesome film and great sketch. I would have known it was based on the film without you saying. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I preffered this to The Matrix and especially the fighting...Keanu Reaves' fighting is as wooden as his acting. Waiting to see how this one turns out :)

Thanks Mert, Simon, Andydude(!), Trekker, Daykandude(!)

Allrighty,

I have now inked it using traditional multiliners.
It looks a bit 'empty' as it is now, but will be compensated in great spades through the colouring.

More to come:)

Not empty imo, in fact inking gave it volume.
(btw, why don't you ask a mod to edit and correct the topic's name)

Thanks all for yout interest in my little WIP:)

I have now started the colouring progress,
basically I used the lasso and gradient tool to make this
specific comic look

For those who are wondering how I got the ink lines on a seperate layer:

When scanning: set on black&white
Once your drawing is digitized and opened in PS
Use the colour droplet tool on a black area.
Select 'colour range' and use a high level of fuzziness, I used 80.

Copy the selected area and paste it on a new layer.

Then you have created a Master ink layer which overlaps all the colouring

Hope this helps

Stay tuned for more: those gun flares look a bit lumpy bit there are tricks to really pimp them up:)

I now dropped in a floor,

using a selfmade texture.

I scanned a rough grain canson paper sheet,
adjusted the levels and added three layers using the lasso tool
adding those 'stone threads'

Hahaha this looks pro man I love that movie.

I was kinda dicey about the post dynamics but it's actually looking pretty cool in that distorted style. Comic colours are really shining through in this one. Looking forward to seeing some more development!
