Thanks for the advice I've been using George Bridgman's and Stephen Peck's books recently. I have a copy of both Drawing Heads and Hands and Figure Drawing for all it's Worth by Loomis. I'll have to keep using the book it's just some of the explanations are hard to understand. The generational gap is what did it, I guess it's time to roll up my sleeves and get to it. Thanks your advice was helpful.

You've made a great progress through this sketches and I like your studies. Actually I've even learnt something from your sketches - so thank you for sharing :) All I can advise is keep up sketching! - try to work from nature, to keep study anatomy and open your mind ^_-

The first one is an inked version of the robot gladiator, the second are sketches from life and the third is something I did on the way back from work.

Some of these sketches are really nice mate, you have a good opportunity to expand on these skills. Saying you aren't very good isn't true, at it's looking like you have quite a good understanding of anatomy - now what you should start looking at is (especially in the work you have been doing) more dynamic poses and what not to really push the anatomical movements. One thing that comes in time is an awareness of how slight movement changes can make something look alive. - On that note, look through the drawing galleries here, and galleries at places like cgtalk.com and conceptart.org and notice the shading styles that are there. While you have enough understanding of anatomy to draw the lines, one of the reasons your characters dont look so alive is because you have solid lines for the section of biceps / forceps / thighs etc. Even if you needed to use line, you could try a hatch / cross-hatch shading type on the figures (approach the muscles like geometric shapes according to the light source) and it will add vitality to them.

Looking over your work again, you really have to study movement. At the moment they are looking a bit stiff - and this is something that you can work on solidly, as it seems that you draw quite a bit. When you are drawing your poses, think about the momentum of a body, if someone is spinning think about the way the torso twist to accentuate that movement etc. Also think about weight differences, both in the figure itself and in anything they may be carrying. Obviously if someone is swinging a sword or something there was a lot of effort put into MOVING that object, which would continue through to the point of contact.

Like i said, your understanding of anatomy is ok at the moment, but you could work on both the shading and dynamics of your drawings to add life to them.
Hope this helps a bit, keep posting your work!

Thanks a lot I'm studying movement now and some minor points of cartooning. I am copying some stuff from the Boondocks comic and cartoon. I'll be posting some anthro and animal drawings. Later people.

Hey all, I've been working so I've not had so much time do any decent sketches but I finally got something. The first one is study/invention of armor. The next two were done on the train but I think the designs are pretty keen. Comments, crits, etc. are wanted and welcome.

you can see alot of progress since the first post to the earlier ones. your proportions are pretty good :). Do you have shading art work?

Yeah, nice improvement, and nice to see you working on that shading.

You're obviously have a good eye, since when you get it right you get it right real nicely, so I'd say, use that eye as your teacher. If it is stiff you can probably see that, and see why, so just do, look, evaluate and redo. That's what I'd say.

Oh, and pictures that are even more finished would be nice to see... :)
