Okay, so I am looking at two graphic tablets, one from a lesser named company and one from Wacom. The most I can spend at this point is $100 so I'm fairly limited and the two best options from what I can gather are the Wacom Bamboo which seems terribly small at 4x5 and the other is from a company I've never heard of called Hanvon. The one review I did see for it, the guy was raving about it and recommending it to everyone. There's a link here: http://shop4.outpost.com/product/4972361;jsessionid=MLNKWNZXXQt+qEvEHm05vA**.node2?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG It's considerably bigger at 8x6 so I'm wondering does anyone have any advice. Thanks in advance for your help. |

| Just hold out with your money until you can afford the size Wacom you want. It's worth it. |

I ended up buying a small tablet -- I think it's 4 x 6 or smaller. it works fine with the way I work which is zoomed in quite a bit. Plus, I don't have to sweep my hand over a large area, and I think that reduces fatigue -- at least in my case. I really like the small tablet and I have no intention of buying a larger one. To me the most important thing is the sensitivity of the pen anyway. But each person will have their own preference. |

| Well, honestly if I'm saving up for one of the full-sized tablets which seem to run $500-700 then I'll be waiting a very long time. That's not something that I figure on being able to afford at all any time soon. The one I looked at was actually a 5.8" working area which doesn't seem very bad. Considering the fact that I'm going to be working digitally, lines where I have stopped shouldn't be too much of an issue to fix. Anyone else used the Bamboo or a comparable Wacom that has any recommendations? |

I recently got myself a new Wacom Intuos3 A4 having had a REALLY cheap and dated ( it was a discontinued model when I bought it 3- 4 years ago) . Now that old 4x6 tablet did the job for me for over 3 years and never broke or wore down or anything and it always felt good. My new tablet is expensive and it does feel great but if you have never had a tablet and can't afford a wacom then I see no harm in going for a cheaper version. Also, I noticed on P.S I couldnt get used to the A4 size of my new tablet and discovered after a whole day of trying to draw on such a big surface that I could reset the working area to whatever size I wanted. So I took it down to A5 and will gradually wean myself up to A4. It seems silly and irrational but I feel terrible wasting all that working space! |

If GFX got a penny for each member that is trying to save for a tablet, this would be the most profitable site on the net. I myself am saving, I think I'll get an A5 intuos3, A4 seems too large (Actually I was doubting until I read what Andy said above *L*) |

Although I have no experience as yet to the feel of a tablet AT ALL of any brand. I can say that I have one (getting one). I am getting a Wacom. It is the Wacom Graphire4 (Not the Bluetooth one) 6x8 (A5) in size. Pen sensitivity: 512 levels (Which is half of an Intuos) BUT I have seen a few people who use this tablet for digital painting and so and they seem to have a great outcome too. I guess it all depends on the person. It comes with software like most tablets do... Such as Corel Painter, Photoshop... So the Graphire seems like a good enough choice and it is not as much as the Intuos. For me it cost $249.(What is weird is that in the Wacom site it says Australian money = $149 but when we got mine it is a whole $100 more AND YES I know out of your budget ![]() ^ Graphire4 Well good luck on your choice!. Don't just stare bluntly @ the pressure sensitivity, the thing that sets intuos and graphire really apart is Tilt. As far as i know it only comes with intuos models. There will be times when u can't really just on pressure in photoshop, hence tilt - a powerfull combo in photoshop. Painter also uses tilt - afterall, what is natural media without angles. This isn't a must because there are other ways to achieve the same thing, right |

I'm looking for a tablet too, and coincidently, my budget is in the same range as yours' Critical. Some Intuos3 models I found in the range (refurbished): http://www.academicsuperstore.com/market/marketdisp.html?PartNo=866633 http://www.academicsuperstore.com/market/marketdisp.html?PartNo=866633 There is another company I found, its not Wacom but it doesn't look all that bad. I wish I could test one out, that would be pretty helpful. Most of their tablets are much cheaper than wacom, but I can't say much about quality unless someone's actually tested them before: http://www.uc-logic.com/products/products_wp8060-tab06.htm |

I've never owned a Wacom (I'd love to though but...) I don't see why you need to limit your choices to wacom and ONE other company. There's various companies out there that are producing consumer line tablets that would satisfy the inner CG artist in you. I'm an amateur cg/photoshop freak but in 2004 I was shopping in a third world mall and guess what I saw? really really expensive Wacom tablets that I couldn't afford stacked up and shiny and of course one of the ultimate tablets for the professional but for me I knew it was silly because I wasn't that good, I didn't deserve such an expensive product. So, I went with this 8x6 tablet that I saw in the window, placed well below the Wacoms. It's from a company in Taiwan, and it's called Genius. Basically, I'd say it's in the same range as the DigiPro line except that DigiPro is licensed in the US and I've yet to see a Genius brand in any BestBuy or other hardware store... My Review of it: In 2004 I had the older version of Windows, Photoshop 6.0, the tablet installation worked easily, and once I restarted, connected the tablet through the USB connection (no power cord needed) I was ready to go. The tablet has these hotkeys all around it, and through photoshop when you first start you simply tap them and then initiate what you want the hotkeys to shortcut you to...I set a couple of mine to pressure sensitivity, zooming, brush size, and also configuring of files. The footprint is small, about an inch and a half...so unlike the wacom, and if you're like me living on a budget in a small dorm room then the less room the BETTER! The pen does require a battery. It's 2008, and the battery finally died just a couple weeks ago...that's NOT bad. Working is smooth, there's a slight scratchy sound if you press too hard, but working with pressure sensitivity can help mediate that. The lines are smooth enough, but you can't complain because it's not rough it's just not brilliant like wacom. But I paid 18 bucks for it... 18 USD for a table that's USB powered, stylus, hot keys, works on older and new Windows models, works with all programs, offers a good start? Yes, please. I say that you guys looking for a budget are making a mistake getting Wacoms...you probably won't even use a Wacom to the extent that the professionals who afford it will so don't overshoot, start small and you'll move on to better things. |

| I just bought the 12" Vistablet for $130 at Frys. I shopped around and this by far was the best deal for this size tablet. I was skeptical seeing there seems to be so many wacom knock offs now but the store rep said they have been selling alot and hasn't had any angry customers come back. I gave it a shot and glad I did. Strong pen sensitivity which is great for my photography editing and 3d drawings with strata software. I think the pen is real flimsy but my freind says I am too critical. Did I mention its a 12" tablet!!!!! Overall I would recommend. |
