WIP - Woman With Roses Avatar
mckadesinsanity | 12/09/2007 @062 | Edit edit post
Hello everyone~

This is a project I started months ago, but I abandoned it and I've just recently picked back up on it. I've lost most all inspiration for this piece, but I was hoping some new perspective could shed new light on this piece.

I'm unhappy with the positioning of her legs, so they are sure to change. I think the 90 degree angle makes her look a bit stiff. Any other suggestions or ideas would be most appreciated. I hope to work more on this and update soon, should I get some free time!

Thanks~ :)

It's looking very very beautiful so far! She does seem a little stiff though.. Maybe making her legs a little bit longer will help make her look more relaxed?

You're so right. I think the length from her knee down is too short anyway, so I'll lengthen them. I'm thinking about moving her feet a bit closer to underneath her, I'll have to test that out though. Hopefully I can update that soon.

Thank you so much~

You have an empty area on the left, why not put something that is at her feet, and change her gaze slightly to be looking at it.

This would then give a visual reasoning for the stiff pose, as something kneeling or being granted an "audience" with her, would see her in a more formal sitting pose, than if she were just contemplating what a nice day it was...

Beautiful work on the background.

To Daykan: Ah! Thank you! :)

To Madster: Interesting idea. I'll brainstorm further on this suggestion for sure. I like the idea of there being other subjects for the eyes to wander upon, the image seems a bit plain as is, eh?

I've scrapped the legs! *pulls out hair* Perhaps letting the minds eye decide how her legs are positioned will benefit. *crosses fingers* Aside from that, I've worked a bit more on smoothing the colors in the background.

Wow wow wow.
I love this so far .
I think maybe this long dress looks better .
I love the colours. I think maybe you should put in a bird near her feet looking up to her? - a robin?
Like this one

I love this misty, windy look :)
Well I shall keep watch here I like this piece!.

OH AND why don't you post the image directly here?. All you need to do is put
[IMG] [/IMG.]
Surrounding the url :) (without the fullstop)

Rae have a great idea!!

To venomsblood: The robin is a great idea! I'm thinking about placing several throughout the painting. Maybe a couple at her feet, some in the trees ect. I think bringing in the reds of the bird's bellies will add some much needed color variation too. Thank you! Oh, and I had no idea how to use the BB code! I'm a newbie to these forums, so thanks so much for pointing that out to me!! :)

I've edited my past posts so that the images will show now~

I've worked the bottom part of the dress adding bits of texture and obscured pattern and also added a few darker shadows to the girl. I'm still deciding what I'd like to do with the left side of the image. I believe I will add some robins as venomsblood suggested later on.

It's coming along beautifully! I really like how she looks so graceful, and yet she's looking at the viewer as though she's really not as innocent as she appears. Like there's something darker behind her angelic face. And as for the left side, maybe you might like to add some kind of an animal companion other than a robin? Like a wolf or a fox?
I'm going to keep an eye on this wip of yours:)

:) WOW you know lately I've given ideas to a couple of people in this kind of area (artwork) and they've taken my advise it's kind of weird. I feel dynamic!.:p.
I feel so helpful now :) :):):):).

Well I think the several Robins would be nice. Maybe say two-three at her feet? one beside her on the rock she is sitting on and one in the background tree... But yes we still have an empty space to the left side but I really don't mind that empty space.... But if you wish to do something there - do so . I REALLY LIKE this painting. Well not to sound like it's a ROBIN fanatic painting but maybe in that empty space you could have a silhouetted one? but don't put it to much in the middle of the sun, put it more faded but silhouetted to the left or right, we don't want a shadow on her face though....

You are welcome for my ideas/thoughts and the url thing :).

Keep it up Sara . Beautiful texture on dress.

Rae

To Elitha: I really do read some slight sinister in her face as well, which was an accident really.. but I rather like it because there can be so many different tales behind that the mind can conjure up. I like the idea of another element, like the fox. Since she has that look about her that's makes it hard to read if she's good intentioned or not, I think a sly fox would fit rather nicely. I'll keep it close in mind! :)

To venomsblood: You are dynamic indeed. I shall insert many robins! Thank you!

I've touched up more of the background on the right, (rocks, grass, the tree trunk..) I've laid a design for the top of the dress and also worked a bit more around the bottom. Still so much more to go, wish I had more spare time in a day to work more on this~

I've been brainstorming much on what the left side of the image should look like for days now. So many wonderful ideas and options have been mentioned already. I asked around my family for advise also, and my mother suggested that she be in a cemetery. Which makes perfect sense for her to have roses in her lap, and would also give me more places for robins to perch upon. Not only all of this, but that not-so-innocent look in her eye could make for a lovely controversy, but would be up to the viewer to decide whats going on here. So! I believe that this will be what I adventure toward...unless there be disagreements?

Saying someone is 'Dynamic' sounds like their explosive must be the 'dynam' part because it's like dynamite hahaha.

:pAnyway.... I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE PROGRESS!! on the painting. I'm loving it ;).
The cemetery idea isn't too bad :) I like it. The only thing is I don't see Robins fitting a cemetery scene but.... *shrugs*. It could still go .

To Daykan: Thank you!

To venomsblood: I think I've kicked the cemetery idea for now. (such is the life on an indecisive painter.. :) ) I plan on making a print of this afterward, and I didn't really like the idea of having a painting with a cemetery greeting me everyday.. *shrugs*

To Zazill: :( Aww....wish you could have! Many thanks anyway, I'm grateful you stopped by.

I don't have a full scale image update this time; I've not worked on major stuff lately, mainly detail work. However, I'll leave you with a closeup of the details in her face so far. Hope to update again soon!

Those features are stunning . Beautiful!!!
Amazing™ work! (I had to ™ because that word is Daykan's :p). And another thing you succeededly did was give moisture to the eyes and mouth (wetness). Looks really nice! :).

The skin tone is really lovely too (I have a small fettish for skin tones :)). I would print this out too if it was mine hehe. It's great!. Keep it up. Can't wait for more (as usual).

The face is beautiful! I do think though that you need a bit more shading around the eyes:)

To GingerLatte, venomsblood, Daykan, and Elitha: Thank you!! Sorry I've been taking so long. (my free time to paint is little and I paint very slowly! :( ) Thanks for being so patient. Many hugs to all of you! (and thanks so much Elitha, I'll fix her eyes! :) )

Here's the latest update. I've reworked the tree and grass. Its coming down now to slow going details....I'm pondering over something that I could put on her right side, something there to break up the plain grass? Maybe a clay pot or more plants?

:) It's okay Sara - take your time ;). Sometimes being slow is great. It means you have patience and usually will come out with something that is worth all the time you took to make it . And we can wait :) just we don't really want to hahaha. What I mean is - you're really talented and seeing something like this evolve is really fascinating :). I really love watching this stuff.
--Well
I really like the details in the grass and the tree :). This stuff usually takes a fair while to do right?.

Well keep up the great work!!! . This is lovely!.
And for that bit of plain grass - along while ago back when this first came up about putting something there I also thought of a tree stump, but then again no. But maybe you could do something with the tree stump like putting something on top of it?. Uhh... It's really hard to think of what could work in that space. Well--- in time ;).

Its coming along beatiful, and I really like the atmosphere, and the warmth of your colours. But somehow theres too much tension in her shoulders, which makes her less pretty.... Or maybe Im wrong :)

Really, i love the background!
Great work, it´s perfect!! And don´t worry, i just have two hours by night for draw, so, i´m really slow!!
Keep working, this is beautiful!!

mckadesinsanity | 12/17/2007 @951 | Editedit post
To venomsblood: Thank you! I'm so happy to have your encouragement and support. Also, I tested the tree stump idea, but it seemed a bit odd..like maybe it didn't belong? So I believe I'll just go with some extra tall thick grass over there..something to take up space but not catch the eye. Thanks a million! *hugs*

To Millink: Thanks! :) Her posture has been an issue since the beginning. I've adjusted bit by bit and it has certainly improved along the way, but I agree, she still looks tense. Any suggestions on how to fix?

To Daykan: Thank you!!

I've been working intensely on detailing the bouquet of roses, so no full update this time. But here's a closeup of the roses:
