Paint Shop Pro isn't bad...it's the user not the program...I've seen great things created in MS Paint! http://www.gimp.org It's free...gets good ratings...and is a good substitute if you can't afford photoshop right now. |

| uuu~ yeah i've tried that. it's okay but not for relying on its dimensions @..@" when i needed an exact dimension i edited the images in gimp (since in the computer i'm woking on in the lab has no photoshop) and when i transfered it in photoshop the dimensions changed T_T |

quote:If you mean changing size (or aspect ratio) on pixel level, I wouldn't know about that. Not sure it's even possible without it being quirky. Did you mean something else? Perhaps it's a resolution thing (the default resolution in ppi is 72, I think, but I've changed it to 300, just in case I ever needed that). |

Gimps default res is 72ppi? Or is that the default for their web setting? Regardless, it's just a matter of being conscious of what your settings are before you start. |

It's not possible that the s/w changes the image dimensions by itself. You can import files from one raster package to another all day and they will retain their pixel dimensions. They will also retain their PPI although PPI doesn't affect screen display so it doesn't matter. The reason why GIMP may look like it's displaying a different size image is because it will by default include the dimensions across the axes even when the image is zoomed out. So, for example, it may have a scale 0...4000 pixels on an image that's only a few inches across on the screen. [Message edited on 03/21 @875]

I use Gimp aswell and I haven't had any touble transferring my work in Gimp to my friends PS, I like Gimp but I am trying to get my hands on Oc it's hard to get it in the UK with them being based in the US and all. If your having trouble with transferring the files formats try enlarging it before you save it as a .psd that way you can crop away the mistakes that Gimp makes in Ps and reduce its size and voila you have it in Ps perfectly. |
