Even when it was 'alive' we had certain members trying to bring it down.

Due to lack of admin support, they succeeded to a degree.

Most the the original mods did their best but were doomed without any support.

Now Brett is supporting, I'm pretty sure it will turn out better this time around.

this comment is to Administrator, GFXartist sponsor Martin .

I find my self always reading the DA news http://news.deviantart.com/browse/front/
regular members get to post from around the world!
I would like to see this brought here to GFX
let the members post some news
all the admins or mods have to do is scope em out make sure they fit GFX and they are not spamming.

regular members can also post features of other GFX members or contest and what not..
gets the members to be more active!
the members news can be placed on the bottom left hand side on the front page where 'More News Headlines' is
honestly all these years being here I never look to that side of the site
it can be called. 'GFX SPOT LITE NEWS' GFX regular members can comment in the news as well and fav those news items and basically subscribe to that member when ever they post more news that member is notified via GFX messages.

just an idea..

to stop spam only a regular GFX member can post they have to be here for at least 2 weeks in order to post
if they have not been here for 2 weeks they can post their spam in the regular forums.

another idea about the 6 per month limit
I think that should end as well
but not for all
if you have been here for over a year and you are a plus member you can post unlimited but only one thumb nail shows if you post more than one
this goes for elite as well this way the whole front page wont be spammed with many posts.

also I miss the pic of the day
members liked that

will that mean that if you visit current images they will come up empty unless you click in the comment tab ?

In my opinion, moving they around will result in less input from members.

Either leave it as is or delete the review..

And I couldnt vote in the poll ?? or couldnt find the link ? I can access the poll as in your link above but havent and cant seem to vote ?

The first part, well all members can submit news...just that no one does.  Millink just wrote a good article up that I'm posting later this week. Though I DO LIKE your concept of a user submit/self automated page. Maybe one day....

The 6 artwork limit....end but not for all? A concept of the haves/have nots is never a good idea.

-----------------------------------

@everyone As posted in the news item link above, there is already a long list of 'things to do' that will help address some issues at GFX, or just make GFX more an ART community than an art COMMUNITY.

I still encourage as much input as possible, just as Pam did above...but please realize there is NO RESURGENCE in programmer support. If you can focus your energy in helping execute the original list, rather that thinking of even more stuff to do....that is definitely outside my (and Administrator, GFXartist sponsor Martin's) capabilities would be a great asset.

I'll start it off click here ----> Drawing Catagory Redefinition

yah well all know we can submit news but how long does it take for a MOD to see it and submit it
making little changes to the site like redoing the fact page is nice but if the admins want the site to be more active give the members things to do instead if sitting around voting and commenting.

I get the funny feeling there will only be tiny changes right?
no big changes..
if so im gunna shut my mouth. and just be a lurker..

Did you read the news post Pam? That's all that's on the plate right now. Those 'tiny' changes will have BIG affects on the site.

Category description.....submission guidelines visual examples....tutorial pages....

This is about making the best out of what we got to work with. Yes I'm an admin now, yes I have all the same rights/privileges that Administrator, GFXartist sponsor Martin does....but even he couldn't work on the site, that wasn't within his means...and it's not in mine either.

Restructure changes no...Logistical changes absolutely

Ok out of curiousity since I have only been here for the past 6 months or so - What made the site alive to begin? How did it stay alive?

I dont think big changes to the site is necessary if the site was "alive" when it started out, cos I assume the layout was the same as now??? However I think its more about attitude and opinions but I dont know....

Juro - How did these people try and "bring down" the site?

I don't think a site staying "alive" is about the people that maintain it, it's the people who use it who make big affects to it. Those who spam and leave whilst slamming the doors only make less time for the admins and the moderators to make things better. The people who make things interesting like Elite, GFXartist sponsor kittyKat are the ones who aid the sites growth and keep it fun for everyone.

It's the people who use the site which have the biggest effect on it not the people that work on it.

(although not saying they don't do anything, if you think I am read on.) The "baddies" put the admins attention onto them distracting them from making further succsess.

Isnt the most important part of this all that we have someone to whine to, and someone who has direct contact to the programmers or the 'people in charge'. So, no, no big changes can be made, but the little ones can add up I think. If we improve small things such as the definition of categories, comments tabs etc, things will improve slowly. On top of that, with Brett, its all about the dialogue with members... Go democracy!

Well I don't think there would be need for big changes, the website looks good, and has a great structure.
