The new category definitions Avatar

I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding in long wait to actually see something come of the list I posted when I first made admin.

For those who may have not been around, I requested any and all input in regards to redefining some of the categories for artwork here, to allow for new technologies, minimize confusion for member and mod alike, and sadly...without the tech support to rename/reorganize the categories and the subcategories therien.

It was a tough job, but thanks to the constructive input from:

I was able to address several concerns and even quote some of you in a small sense in creating new definitions for the Painting, Drawing, and Design categories.

It wasn't easy, I won't lie, and as always it's up for tweaking.

I am going to insert larger examples, more obvious examples in the near future. But first I want to finish up the other categories, namely Photography and Photomanipulation first.

3d will also get an expanded description as it needs some lovin't too :p

Again thanks everyone for helping me make this a community shaped by the members...I could not have done this with out all the varied input.

It's a litle messy as it's a WIP, but I don't have access to the server files to do this locally, the actual site is my test server.

Brett, this is genius! I can't wait for the finished version. The mixed media bits in both drawing and painting categories is a really clever idea

The essential aspect is, if it's mixed media....what is the most predominant part? It's a sad workaround to not being able to rename/create/delete the current gallery titles.

I emailed both Martin and Martijn to bless us with a Photography-HDR subcategory....as HDR has been equally argued for both photo and manip.....cross your fingers.

Looks pretty good given the limitation of sticking with the old category framework.
A few thoughts:

What's the rationale behind the photo manipulation subcategories? I realize "light" and "dark" are some sort of tradition, but no other medium is split up in this manner. Why not treat it like painting, drawing, 3d, and photo? If one objects to foregrounding a particular component (figure vs setting etc), I could see a miscellaneous/uncategorized subdivision (I am sad to see it gone from the rest, too!).

Why have a special section for "CD Cover" under design? I'm thinking product packaging would be more inclusive but still descriptive.

I agree with most of your points, however the subcategories and their titles are out of my reach unfortunately. lol the whole aspect of light/dark always struck me as odd as well. :p

Good gawd. I can't believe you summarized everyone's input into that! I'm getting crossed-eye just thinking about how it was all done.

As far as I can see.. the easy part is over. Now, for the most complex segments. Photomanip has to be the most talked about category, and I see no easy task for you coming up with something to please everyone. I wish you tremendous luck on this. ;)

Great job, and take... your... time. You're doing a terrific job as it is.

I fixed some typos :p

I think I'll do 3d next lol...as I'm waiting on an email to see if this new subcategory can be made, (Photography - HDR).

If it is...I'm going to flood Arno and Martijn with requests for the other subcategories to be modified (as listed above) as necessary.

Durr, I missed that, though of course it makes sense. My next step will be to construct a time machine to go into the past and rectify this issue at its birth.

Hi Brett! The new catagory definition looks good! The drawing and painting catagories seem well defined, simple and easy to understand. Adding examples of artwork below is a great idea. (thumbup)
