Hi, I'm new to the community but thats not important right now. I'm a newbie when it comes to painting in photoshop, I just got my tablet recently and I want to learn how to paint! Here is what I've learned so far thanks to a chapter from the book by Don Seegmiller. But I am stuck! My colors are boring, they're purply and I just can't understand how to make the nose!! Also how do other painters sharpen and hone in on specific elements of a face so cleanly!

| Your darks seem too dark and your colors too saturated - are you working from a reference? |

erm...no I'm not working off reference. I just threw it together as an exercise for myself to get used to the tablet. Is there a reference source that most artists go to for painting skin tones or faces? P.S. thanks for all the links! [Message edited on 08/23 @634]

Actually there's not a "skin tone" bible for artists. Remember that skin color is based in different factors. For example a white person's fingertips under a white light are pink / salmon red, but the area around the eyes tend to be blue / green. If it's cold a white person turn bluish with pink ears and nose. Why I'm trying to say here is that you must study what's below the skin. Veins and arteries play a very important factor when it comes to skin color (skin itself is very translucent). Oh another thing... please use references. There's nothing wrong with it. Most profesionals use them ABUNDANTLY. [Message edited on 05/29 @553]
