not yet finished with the underpainting, though here is the progress![]() here's a detail of the painting, you can clearly see the underdrawing. i used silverpoint as you can get a very fine line, but it won't "grow" through your drawing, as graphite would.

now, after my broken hand has healed, here`s the progress: i put a glaze in resin-oil paint over the whole painting and again painted with white egg-tempera into the wet paint, to further define the form.

Hi, Nice painting! I'd love to see your previous images that were posted in this thread, but apparently your website has moved and they're no longer available to see. It would be great to see how the chalk and silverpoint drawing over imprimatura looked before any other work was done, and see the overall development of the painting from the beginning. Could you edit your previous messages to include a currently working link to those images? You're the first person I've run across who works in silverpoint and I'm curious to know how you happened to begin using it, and maybe hear a little more about the process. I've seen silverpoint drawings on the Web that were extremely beautiful. Have wanted to try it, but haven't found the time or, until now, anyone else who draws in silverpoint. Thanks in advance if you can post those image links again, and tell me some more about drawing with silverpoint. I have updated the links. time to get some decent hosting, i think. I've used silverpoint in this painting, since it won't grow through the painting, and it gives a fine line. ihave not yet done a real, finished, drawing in silverpoint, but from what i've tried out, works fine on a chalk- ground (i'm austrian, and don't know if this is the right terminus, it's glue, chalk and a pigment.) the point is, the ground has to be hard. i've bought a silverpoint pen by cretacolor, but you could also just put some 0,5mm silver wire (real silver, without copper-core) into a mechanical pencil. or anything made of silver and pointed. there's practically no wear. the line will be quite light in the beginning, but will get darker with oxidation after some weeks. |
