Gil Elvgren.....

I was just curious to know what you all think of him? He's a legendary pin-up artist from the 40's & 50's whose paintings and faces rock. Matter of fact, I've never seen an artist who can do women like he can. Look him up and tell me what you think.

Personally, I don't find his work to hold my interest, which doesn't mean I don't appreciate his painting technique. I simply don't care for big-breasted women in provocative poses.

I view Gil Elvgren's work as a symbol of white picket fence living.

Yeah, I agree, his work doesn't really do it for me. In some ways his style and technical skill remind me of Norman Rockwell's, but compared to Norm his paintings just look hollow and two-dimensional. I know he was painting for a different demographic (which demanded different subject matter) but if we're talking about commercial artists from that era I'lll take Norman any day.
