[PAID] penciler and inker
krazycp | 11/21/2004 @109 | Edit edit post
I am currently creating an amateur graphic novel that when completed will be 400 pages. I need a competent penciler and inker to work closely with the writer (myself) to create the artwork.

The work would be paid and the amount per finished page is negotiable. Working out the rate would be agreed upon before the work begins.

Of course there is always the possibility it will never get published, but it's my main goal in life right now, so it stands a good chance.

If this sparks your interest, contact me for more information.

Thank you,

Corey

May I ask a couple questions (for the benefit of others, that is)?

Approximately, how much money are you willing to pay for your artist per page? Some research (if you haven't already done so) into this area would help to give you an idea of the going rates. More people get interested in requests when they know around what they'll be earning.

***You need to finish your novel and write a script based on that. It sounds like you don't really need an artist at the moment- not for a while. I don't recommend that you get your artists started on the chapters you've written until you've finished the book. As a writer myself, I know that the beginning chapters are often the first that are changed dramatically in the rewrite. Have you published any of your writing before? Even minor credits could help convince artists that they will be paired up with a credible partner, which is important in my eyes. Especially if your book is to be around the 400 page mark, artists need to know that going into this for the long run is going to get them somewhere.***

If you're willing to pay for an artist, would you aim more to get the work published? That would be 'a good selling' point for your artists. If they spend time on the work, they want to know that it will go somewhere- not just be left on someone's desk. I know that if I were to take on a project, did a good job on the art and whatnot, and the writer didn't want (or couldn't) do anything to publish it, I'd be asking for rights to do it myself. For such a large project, for a paid project, you need to get it out there.

Hope that helps a little! I'm bumbling my way through my first large novel- I'd fly over the moon if I managed to find a good artist to turn it into a graphic novel. ^_^

edit: Sorry, misread part of your post (should learn to read rather than skimming, lol), so if that paragraph between the *** sounds confusing to you, that's why. :p Anyhoo, it would be best to complete the script to your graphic novel before you get your artists working on things. That way, you could also give your applicants an accurate and complete synopsis to help them decide if they really are suitable for the project.
