| dude, before you start colouring etc, get / draw a beter image to do so. anatomically incorrect images are the hardest to colour. besides... learning to draw correct is a bit more important than learning to colour, at first , anyways. just my opinion. |

| DUDE! I know dude! But hey, I just want to know dude. Or else I'll be asking for anatomy, which is not such bad idea. Where's the best and easiest to learn anatomy? Alrighto... |

You've got good handwriting. The lines are interesting, you've got talent. For the rest: Take some anatomy classes, or do it from anatomy drawing books. You can find them anywhere. And....being elite doesn't guarantee a thing. There are lots of great quality providers in the members area aswell. Goodluck |

I'd echo what the other folks have said really. Start by drawing real people in very basic poses, move on to stylised figures in more dynamic poses once you've got the basics. It won't take you long, but it's a necessary part of developing the skill to tackle this kind of subject. Try speed studies, use scrap paper and a cheap pen/pencil so you don't get too precious. Get one of your friends to pose, tell them to change their pose every 3-5minutes (whether you're ready or not). You'll find when you have to sum up a persons form in that amount of time, you get good at seeing what's important real fast. You'll also naturally put more life into your work, due to the speed and fluidity of your strokes Try to remember it's all about learning, not about producing a beautifully finished piece. You'll learn much more banging out dozens of scribbly roughs than you would obsessing about getting one piece perfect. Hope this helps. I'm sure you'll get there. |

"I know the legs are kinda skinny, and her face is pale. Bah, oh well, just tired" First, fix the things you already know are wrong - like the skinny legs and pale(?) face. Tired is never an excuse! Yes, anatomy and drawing is your priority here, before you even attempt digitizing and color. If you haven't observed from life enough to get good at anatomy, color is going to drive you insane and quickly. Pose a friend, take a photo - draw from both. Trace the photo (YES! trace the photo! I know... evil!) to help your eye-mind-hand coordination and as an exercise to familairize yourself with anatomy contour, not as a crutch to replace drawing skills. Once you've got the anatomy down fairly well, then think about computer and color. [Message edited on 09/26 @207]

Hi Nailati, thanks for the nice comment, glad you thought it was useful. Like your art by the way, and the photo of Venice is lovely. Looking forward to seeing WeirdMind grow and bloom in front of us all. Being overly abitious and overstretching yourself is often the first sign of greatness! Keep posting the work, it'll be fascinating to watch you improve. |

| Wow, I never knew I would have some post again. hehehe, hey guys thanks for commenting. Alright, I'll post some new drawings. But I got to admit that I am more on like Manga and stuff instead of real characters... But thanks again for the many help, frick, I'll have to find some girls that can pose for me. I am unfortunate though, I don't have models. But I'll look forward on that. One other thing too, my mom wants me to be an engineer, hehehe. Anywho'z, I'll still be drawing sketchs for fun though. Alrigthy then. Thanks thanks thanks again. |

You need to be able to at least draw a basic stick figure of the post you are trying to "flesh out." You two biggest issues are Anatomy and Consistency. This is why you need to learn to draw stick figures with shoulders, hips and joints. The head is way too large, as are her hands for the rest of the body. And the facial features are too small and too high up on the face. Do a websearch for "facial feature proportions" and you will find some GREAT simple tricks to help you out. You have the upper torso twisted to her right at the shoulders, but the breasts and waist are trying to face the viewer, and the legs are so wonky it's not funny. Also, FEET ARE NOT SHAPED LIKE WIDE TOED BOXES! You have two feet. LOOK at them. No one has feet like that. The 3-direction torso is one example of poor consistency, the way the hair is blowing and the skirt is another. You have 2 totally different directions of wind within the space of about 18 inches... Here is a Paintover correcting the anatomy and the general inconsistencies. ![]() It's a good concept, but poor execution, basically because you didn't take enough time to think about what you were drawing, you just "doodled." Always THINK about the pose you are drawing. Which way is the figure facing? Upper torso and lower torso NEED to face the same general direction. Same with the legs. You can't have a goofy toe-in pose unless they have a hip displacement. When in doubt, stand in front of a mirror, and try to put your body in the pose you are drawing. If you can't imitate it, the viewer can't visually believe it. I know this thread is a couple years old as of this reply, but the suggestions remain the same. Hope this helps someone! ~M |

Kitty Kat, this forum is quiet enough, I knew it wouldn't "hurt" anything to resurrect an old thread. I even mentioned that it is a couple of years old at the end of my post, but thanks for stating the obvious in case I hadn't noticed... ~M |
