Is it me or is GFXartist very quiet lately? [D]

Hi -

Might be me, but it seems to be very quiet lately in the normal member galleries. There is still a lot of new artwork, and the quality is still good on average, but little voting. Very few artwork with high votes, barely any in the G-spot for highest votes the last months. It seems quiet compared to say 1 year ago...

Look at the elite nominations, only photography this month, no drawing last month if I can remember.

I am not sure if there's anything wrong I am still happy enough here but it's just something I noticed :s

character painting, 3 hours each roughly [WIP]

trying to get out of old habits. I usually spend a lot of time on details and miss the general form and flow in the image. I spend around 3-5 hours on each and it was a big challange for me.

photoshop , wacom pen and from photo reference (no overpainting and no colour picking from the photo) .

"Learning" Art [ST]

I'm an 18 year old aspiring graphic artist. Next semester I'm taking 4 art classes, 2 digital and 2 traditional, and they'll be the first art classes I've ever taken. As for my artistic ability, I don't think it's all that great. I was wondering if art is something people can learn or if its more of a talent that someone's born with. Anyone can learn to be a computer programmer or a pharmacist if they want to, but can you learn to be a great artist?

Currently I have a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet, Photoshop CS3, and the latest version of Corel Painter. I'm working towards my associates in Graphic Arts, but for the past few semesters I've been doing the liberal arts requirements and haven't taken any art classes. Ultimately I'd like to be able to create digital paintings(as opposed to editing photos or making advertisements) and make textures/concept art for video games.

Thanks for the help, sorry for being a newb.
By: Mkpp - Replies: 11

Create with my camera.. [D]

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can be more creative with my camera? I feel that I don't achieve anything when I take a photo and I want to create new worlds like a 3D animator would, but with my camera instead of an over-heating PC.

Any suggestions?
By: Xibalba - Replies: 3

Hi, I'm trying to draw a some what realistic face for my painting but something still seems off. It seems all my drawings always look cartoony and never believable so I was wondering if you could help me point out something I could fix and how I could go about fixing it. I'm still working on it so the hair isn't complete yet.

The help me out [ST]

I was looking through Conceptarts forum and I found a thread which was aimed to help people devolop there painting skills by helping each other. I thougth this would put a stop to people posting stuff like "how do i do that" and free some webspace(in the future ofcourse). Heres how it works.

If you have trouble with something you can come here and post it up.
Someone will see it an reply to you and show you how to do whatever it is you need to do.

So, who's first?
By: pyrokid - Replies: 42

I have a 22 Inch Monitor, trying to decide what kind of Tablet is right for my needs. [TC]

Ok so the monitor im using is 22 inches and im going to use the tablet for Graphic Art(patterns, designs, web design) and Photo Manipulation.

Im not rolling in cash at the moment and was wondering if the Wacom Bamboo Fun Small or the Wacom Bamboo is suited for my needs.

Whats The difference between the 2? Seems Like the Fun version just costs more to me when I look at specs.

Also are these any good, cant find reviews: http://www.uc-logic.com/products/products_wp8060-tab06_s.htm

Scribbles! [SP]

Hey all.
I was wondering if anyone would be interrested in doing scribbles. The idea is that every week/day/month someone post a "scribble" (Random lines and shapes on a blank canvas), and then everyone else just does what comes naturally: see funky stuff in it and turn it into artworks. Ignore it, obsess about it, take it as near to completion as you want to. Here's a quick example.

The scribble:

The drawing that jumped out in my mind:

Angry amazon, sketchy line-drawing [WIP]

The second WIP I'm submitting here. Still havent managed to get the last one ( Female pose (First post!) ) finished enough to put on my profile.

But anyway, this is what I'm working on right now. Any input is appreciated!

-----------------
EDIT
Concept input is certainly welcome, so I'll just say something about what the picture is supposed to be.

The character belongs in a modern superpowered setting with a fairly realistic feel (apart from there being supers flying around, obviously!). Most supers don't use comic book spandex outfits, but something like a uniform or "work outfit" fitting a super-powered fighter type is definitely right. Also, I like mixing cliché with non-cliché a bit...

The character is supposed to be a fighter with super-fysique, a spear/javelin as her trademark weapon, a bit of skimpiness in her outfit. Oh, and she's probably a bit of a drunk as well! ;-)

So, any suggestions on what to add or change?
