Description

Pirate Flyers attack Merchant Airship.
I tried to improve my skill in painting of clouds. All done in Photoshop, with litle help of 3dsmax for those flyers. C&C welcome.

Good work, the saturation may need to come down some on the backround.

I don't agree with Juro; I think the colors in the background really makes this piece. Great work!

Didn't like the large amount of contrast at first, but it is really growing on me. I think this piece demands a wall-sized viewing, any chance of a few close-ups or larger overall image?
Really deep and fluid, I'd say you're pretty much topped out on your cloud painting skills :)

Composition is well ballanced here - it has dynamicity and depth and it's pleasure to view.

Your work with light is very good here. Maybe it's kinda much contrasteous to my taste, but still it envokes fantastic plasticity. Looking to the airship, the part of the orange light (comming from the cloud behind airship) shall be reflected on the darker parts of the balloons, thought. Especially in this angle - when light source is behind the object the reflection is obviously thin, but sharp and bright.

In photography this backlight is sometimes called kick light.

great work as usual Marek! wonderful colors and details! max points from me! :)

 05/02/06 @357

GREAT STUFF.....really nothing to crit..... maybe the angle of the attacking ships should be more towards the cargo ship...to bring more tension into the scene ...nevertheless my amx vote 9/9 and maybe you could post a detailed few of the ships...that would really ad to the artwork

Agreed with skulpturro: I'd love to see a larger version so that I could appreciate the details even more. That's not criticism, just a statement/request. Amazing painting!

Wicked clouds. Know nothing about 3dsmax so cant comment much on the ships but they look good. Good stuff.

1. Contrast&Saturation. I'm aware of this problem, but crowd loves it, and I did this one for common people :) .. and last but not least, many users have their monitors on brightness 100%, desaturated pictures look weird to them ... my early works were mostly bright and not very contrasted, and response was opposite. You can't satisfy everybody.

2. Robertmekis and kicklight. I was about to put it there, but I reconsidered it .. it seems to me like those clouds shouldn't affect backside of the balloon very much.

3. Sageon - Flyers are flying around ship, and like it more this way .. don't wanna make them look like they are gonna collide with it.

I added bigger version of picture.
Thanks All for nice words and constructive critics! :)

It's the colours here that get to me. I notice them before I see anything else - and that's a good thing. I'm obsessed with colours. In this piece, they tug my attention from detail to detail until I've taken it all in.

I think this is my favourite piece of the week. Beautiful work.

Very strong image - even from thumbnail, not much left to say which hasnt been said, great detail, fantastic colour, and an almost 'aged' look to the overall hue of the piece. Brilliant.

wish you hadn't given the title plus description ;)
i was building a story about how the flyers are linked to the airship until i read ;)))
&i think particially covering the flyer in the bg made it more diversified and therefore surprizing (mainly concerning formal aspects)
but he.. funky work;)
add. d/L wont work
