Description

Put it in the "Still life" category for irony's sake...

Remember: Always carry a broadsword when visiting the graveyard. You never know when zombies might attack...

p.s. Please don't give me a "+0" or I"ll cry about it in the SayWhat and then send my girl after you with her broadsword.

I really want to give you a +0 now...

but no i wont.. nice shot . not a huge fan of the red text in the border, but it has nothing to do with the quality of the photo.

that sword is sweet!

Very good tones and composition. I'd like to see the figure a little more prominent but I admit I'm not sure how you could achieve that and keep the composition as well balanced. Good work.

Can the sword protect you? lol Nice shot indeed. 7/7

@  slaphapy5: Yeah, the red was rather distracting, wasn't it? I was on the fence about it, but you confirmed it. Thanks.

@ Elite, GFXartist sponsor ThruMyEyez: Next foggy day I get I'm going to return and work on a few more compositions focusing on the figure. I do have few more shots with the focus on the figure, perhaps I'll upload one. For this one though, this is how I'd planned it. Thanks for the input :)

@  everseen: ...the assailants can be stopped by removing the head or destroying the brain. :p

Very nice mood and grain. The person seems a bit lost in the tree.

@ Elite deankuhta and Elite, GFXartist sponsor sdavis75: Thanks very much :)

@ GFXartist sponsor Almost-Human: I know, I apologize. I've really got to stop running around with my finger holding down the shutter -- every great once in a while though I come across a scene like this and just happen to catch it whilst flailing around :p

I specifically chose a foggy day to do this shoot, but I could see how a nice set of dark, foreboding clouds could work as well.

@ GFXartist sponsor twistoflime: I had considered having the figure wear white, to emphasize her more, but I kind of like making the viewer search around a bit.

@ Elite cupcake and  CommentFA: Thanks :)

The cemetary scene is beautiful and the figue is an added bonus. I like the fact that the viewer might have to change their idea about this photo when they spot the figure.

Nice photo and good composition.

I think more of the tree would have added to the composition.

The whites seem a bit too bright.

The composition is great, its sharp, and there are excellent details at the foreground. Great mood and a very nice picture to look at.

The weak point is the sky. You needed a serious negative exposure bias to deal with the fog. As it is, I think it will look better if you push the exposure to -.60 in PS.

Great composition, I think a mace can be more useful against zombies

Nice one Brandon with a wonderful mood. The large tree is perfectly placed in the scene and I enjoy how the extended branches frame the upper area of the image. The slight fog creates depth by lightening the background trees and then there is the nicely sloped foreground.
Luke Skywalker is a nice addition but isn't even needed here. He doesn't stand out all that well except for his light sabre.

Nice image.

Thanks everyone for you comments!

@ Elite workster: Thanks very much -- that was the idea :)

@  purplerose: Thanks. I kind of had to decide whether to pull-back further and include more of the tree (which I agree would also have worked nicely) or zoom in a bit to make sure the figure didn't get entirely lost, and I (obviously) decided on the latter. One of these days I'm going to get a wide-angle lens...

@ Elite Roadrunner: Thanks for the comment -- Unfortunately, due to the fog, the sky was pretty much just a flat-shade, so even if I'd exposed only for the sky it'd still be uninteresting. I'm planning on going back during a time when the clouds are more defined (although the atmospheric perspective effect would be lost without the fog).

@ Elite MertAcar: Thanks, I'll take that under advisement ;)

@ Elite, GFXartist sponsor MsMichelleLynn: Thanks for the lovely comment :) I disagree about the figure though, without her the shot would be pretty standard-fair, I believe. There's a definite distinction between her and the tree, although if your monitor is on the dark side I could see how she might blend into it.

I knew you were more of the morbid kind! :) LOL

A cemetary and wrecked buildings might have something in common.

Is the dude with the sword on the right you by any chance? :p

Doing a hitchcock (or nowadays an al-h) r u?

Nice mood...!

I would try to darken the background trees. The sky is ok for this mood.

I like it... damn I had to say that... :o ;)

You are still a bit obnoxious and a real pain in the rear or have I maybe mistaken you for someone else? LMAO

@  FAV: Thank muchly -- I know urban decay isn't for everyone. I plan on incorporating more figures into future shoots, so hopefully there will be more images to capture your attention in the future :)

@ Elite moserArtist: Actually, the figure with the sword is a woman -- it's really impossible to tell from this distance, but she'll appear in some future shots, so you'll get to see her closer up. With the trees, I like them that way, because they create a bit of "atmospheric perspective." Glad you like it. And yes, it's still me, I'm still obnoxious, and definitely a pain in the rear :p

The tree really frames this nicely! I love that graveyard especially in that weather. Did you have to really carry that sword to the graveyard? You didn'y get arrested or anything???

Very well done

Avatar Byonder

 03/17/08 @057

@ Elite Andy--Jones: Well, I drove to the graveyard with it in the trunk, and then carried it around for the shoot. I was slightly worried about getting arrested, but I run that risk every time I go into an abandoned building too -- so I figured, "eh, why not?" Thanks for the comment :)

I love the image but the sword kills it for me. It brings it from a serious statement about life and death and minimalizes it to fantasy.
