Description

An experiment in digital illustration-creating photorealistic imagery using photoshop.
this is an image of my watch, created in ps7 withouth the use of any 3Dsoftware/photos/scans/3rd party filters/any other software.
I created it by looking at my watch in real time and recreating whatever i saw on the screen via PS7.
I just wanted to proove that one could make digital illustrations that look completely like photographs using PS.

wow! The band looks a little cheesy, but the watches are superb!

From the thumbnail i though it was a mad or lightwave render. If that's all photoshop.. Damn, well done!

I agree, it's brilliant, but the only thing that throws the realism is the straps. The highlights look a little wrong, perhaps. But that metal, wow. You've proved your point :)

great job...would have been great if you made a tutorial as you were doing it.

Well Done!

thanx people...spent so much time with the chrome and look of the main watch..layers and layers of work, that i just hurried up with the strap. though it looks pretty like the one on my watch..could be redone which i shall do soon.

Great job on the watch!! I love photorealism creations and enjoy doing them myself :p The only suggestion I have is the band looks a little out of focus - but still realistic!! Depending on what you want to do, I would add a bit more detail to the band first - maybe either some grain for leather, or stiching along the side, and see if you can't sharpen it up to make it a bit more photorealistic. On the other hand, having the band blurry, while a bit distracting, does draw focus and attention to the watch face itself. Either way, GREAT JOB!!!

watch strap a lil blurry compared to the ultra realistic watch head. Which i might add is unbelievable! :) Great work +7

The watch faces look really real, nice work you deserve a +6 because it looks like you put alot of effort into this.

 02/03/04 @307

1 thing gives it away. The watch on the left is extruded to the right to make it look 3d, but the dial/knob for changing the time is square instead of round. Putting your name under "Cruiser" on the left was a nice touch. The strap only needs a more solid edge and it will look more realistic. Your attention to detail on the watch faces is great.

I agree with whats been said about the band, but the watch looks really good. Almost photoreal. I think the inside of the watch seems to be a bit too close to the glass though and the adjuster on the side should be round I assume? Other than that its really good.

Avatar Maximilian

 02/06/04 @550

all good things had been said above....
just 1 question: why the button use to adjust time is not a round one?

 02/09/04 @395

Thanks tiger,neozeda, ..
lentorro.i spent aboout 12hrs or so i think..not sure though.as i was on it continuously, adn there are many layers in order to get the photorealism right:)may have been even 16 coz by the time it ended i just went off to sleep..

mrtinity..the dial was not much of a problem to rectify, let it as it is so that there could be some concrete diff between a photo of a watch and this ..and also by the end of it i was too lazy to move my mouse any more:)
love,
Omen

Great work on this one. But, as I already told in some other place, your watch has only 48 seconds graduations. This could make hours much shorter ;)...
The top view is perfect, but the perspective one needs some more work on the side.
I also have a crit about the render of the strap leather...
Great work anyway.
I'm sad that your only aim here is photo-realism, because I love watch design so much. I'd loved you to do more of them.

Not to be rude, but... http://www.brusberg.net/1/tutorials/watch/watchtut.htm

With a step-by-step tutorial on making "photorealistic watches", I could make that too.

yup..you could maybe..but maybe you should send a mail to thomas brusberg and ask him whether this is a copy of his work. He has himself applauded me on my work and knows i haven't done it through his tut. Colin Smith's (winner of Guru award 2002,2001, writer of Photoshop mostwanted, PSMW2, Masters of photoshop etc was an inspiration with its photorealness, ..but check his work too. its photoreal but different form mine.
Goto Photoshopcafe.com, and check theirs(thomas brusberg form brusberg.net, and colin miths, and Al Ward, etc's comments on this same peice of work)
You should, in case of comments like these first verify with either the author of the artwork whether or not he/she has followed a tut or not. Just making up your mind on your own is not proper.

This is where I want to be with my Photoshop work. I have a view pieces in this vain, but not as complex, and I have no idea how to do the watch dials. I don't have Illustrator nor know how to create it in PS. Good work. Just work in those watch bands. It should be pretty easy. Look at my Modern Pull, the textureon it is a little cheesy, but I know it can be improved.

I am kinda curious about the winding/adjustment knob. It looks square.

Good job! I am not good like this with photoshop. I have never painted a piece using the software. I do mostly design work. You have shown here that you can do painting, design, and photorealism in one! I like the text and the font you chose. Good job:)

Hi Omen -
I haven't been on this site in.. wow, a long time, anyway, and I'm only just now receiving your message.
You're right, I shouldn't jump to conclusions. Let's just chalk it up to jealousy - my digital paintings are, well... crappy. ;)
Sorry about my rude comments.
