Description
I did this one to celebrate the upcoming movie: Narnia, one of my favorite storys as a kid. This time I thought I'd try something else I never do, landscapes. It was great fun just to let my brush run free, as always what you think is always adheared to. I realise this is a bullseye composition, but I wanted Aslan to be the focal point.

First, it's a bit different from you...not too many people attempt landscapes cause they are too busy deciding the length of point of ears.
Something about that ledge is irking me...it just seems flat...despite all the effort you put into it....maybe it's just me.
Other than maybe making the animal lay down (like it's just chilling in the awe of view) I really don't know what to tell you to make it better....

I think you have done a really good lanscape here. The colours are just right in my opinion and can only do with a little added 'sparkle' here and there as stated above by the Dutch master. Aslan looks good too and its a shame we dont have something with him to judge his size by...but maybe that would just spoil it. I also agree its a different approach from you but it still has your style within it. Good work Glenn boy!

Beautiful atmosphere you have created. Great work!

My only crit is that he seem so accidental or randomly placed. I know you wanted Aslan to be the focal point, but I don't think the centered composition work to well IMO. Aslan seem to be viewing the landscape before him, and if you just pushed him a little more to the right with more room for the landscape it would improve the impression of the painting.
You've improved your brush work amazingly here! Glad to see.

i somehow feel that this wasnt planned properly before you attempted it. the key element for any piece is well thought out breakdown which causes a problem in it. i do love it though because i love all things narnia and lions.

By the way the technique you used for all the detail reminds me of uncle_xeN's paintings.

The lion looks fantastic...
To me as a photographer ............
The lion has a hue around its body which seems to seperate it from the background a bit much..........
Hey I am trying and dying here.........
Its amazing you can do this from my perspective.......... 10+

The only thing maybe...I'd prefer a less centered composition....with the lion on the right, and the river more visible! Very nice in any case!
12/01/05 @102
You already know it's a centered composition so I'm not gonna go there, haha, you chose that, you stand by it. A crit would be that perhaps it lacks depth... something in the hues of colors don't suggest a space as vast as this actually is. Even the rock itself, seems flatter than it should be. Also, I love the suggestiveness of the background but you applied that to the rock in the foreground as well, which I think should be more distinct and "hard" if the lion is so exact. Also, I'm not a fan of the outline around the lion...

Starqueen: I don't expect you or anyone to give me critques, but I truly apreciate it when you do, thank you.

the center weight robs the eye path flow of the viewer from examining either left or right sides to much, in my absence i have been churning through photography books, and the thing that keeps popping up is the rule of thirds, draw imaginary lines vertically and horizontally across the image, dividing it into three rows and three columns, the places where the lines intersect are considered by the western mind (starting with observations by the greeks) to be the best area's to stick your main piece of each image. ofcourse this isn't 100% true, but i think its worth playing with....especially on "wide angle" pieces where your viewer is so far from the main object.
i think if the lion was down and to the right it would open up the area for the river, and release the eye to wander around soaking in the work you did on the sky and mountain tops.
