Description

I once went to visit my grandfather, and I found an old picture he made.
I wanted to draw it, but I didn’t have enough time to finish it, so I finished it without the reference photo.
There are many mistakes in that drawing (and yes I know the hand didn’t turn out to good), but I decided to publish it here anyway, since it has a deep meaning.
So, don’t go to hard on me about the technical problems with it.
I only had a 2b pencil and I took the paper from a copy machine :)
Not the best tools you can hope for… anyway, here it is.
C&C are very welcome.

P.S- I think you guessed that I don’t have the reference, since I used it only for the initial sketch, and a little shading…

good art isn't about the tools you use, but the rendering of the emotion that you put down on the paper, or canvas or napkin or whatever... It also doesn't matter if the finished product matches the photograph exactly. To be honest with you, I think photorealism is boring. That fact that you completed this very personal image from memory and put your heart into it is all that matters. Good job and thanks for the story. +9/9

Nice work, good shading! Some more contrast would be nice though (darker shadows under the fabric) :)

Very nice composition. I agree with Diane on it needing more contrast. I believe you may have over blended a bit which you could remedy with a kneaded rubber eraser to bring back some of the white of the paper. Well done.

nice drawing :) but i would have added a bit more contrast in ps (i know it's hard to draw contrasts with just a 2b pencil) but all together great work! i really like the expression of it - the protecting mother... :)

Really well done. It's nice to see drawings done without being a carbon copy of a photo. Good work!

Photocopy paper and No. 2 pencil. Wow! Imagine if you had what you would like to have had. I think this is incredible. Maybe I am influenced by the context, a mother's love. You captured that beautifully, which has to be authentic to the reference. Wonderful shading and you did the fabic folds beautifully. There is softeness to match the sentiment. I honestly see nothing I can say that would offer suggestions for improvement. You are a bettter judge of that than I am. You were a cute little boy and so serious! :)

nicely done, and from memory too....like the sentiment / mood whatever. personally, i thinker some tighter pencilling in certain areas might have improved it a bit. still, good work.

I thought I already commented on this one *scratches head*
Anyways, I love the sentimentality of this entry. Plus I admire people who make use of whatever they have to create something as touching as this.
Heartwarming piece and by this time, Vincent's wish has already been granted :)

considering the circumstances ( short of good tools/time etc) I think you did an amazing job here. So what the anatomy ain't perfect, the emotion is there!
Maybe you could redraw or paint it?? than it would be an absolute masterpiece! +9

As mentioned by deankhuta the love for art is unconditional. Some of the Most Popular works of art are technically questionable. I'm self taught so I am not fully aware of all the technicalities involved. Based on a few pieces i've sold I've learned whats not good to me is great to the viewer.
P.S The conceptual nature of you're works goes a loooooooong way!(thumbup)
