Description

"Sometimes I don't understand
Why I was born at all
When all that I do leaves me empty
Aching and longing for more
Sometimes I feel I could stand
Man, I feel like I'm ten feet tall
But then it's like I'm on trial and I'm guilty
I don't know exactly what for

How I wish
I could be relieved
Fall on God's doorstep
And be received
But it seems he doesn't
Care for me anymore
So I'll be on my way
Live from the cradle to the grave
On my own"

song - Cradle To The Grave - from Neal Morse - album One

Few words about this man:
He lied two days under windows where i am working - specialy on stairs near Bratislava railway station in Slovakia... This man doesn't beg for money , he doesn't shout on people passing by - he shout on God... Normaly I would not shot photo like this but this time...

It just breaks my heart!....Can't find the words!
Sad and tragic facts that need to be documented...
They live in a world that we can visit only in our nightmares!
Top marks!!

Sensitiva - i done nothing except this - i am not in position to help that poor man, i think he dont want my help at all, i shot this photo, yes it not helps him but damn i've done "something" not just pass by (than my friend called city police hope they helped him) - sorry for that...

thx all

Great moment to capture, it takes a lot of guts to take pictures of people in such emotional states.

You are helping them Milan .....just posting this makes us aware of the problem.....and it moves me to try to be a better person.

Not an easy photograph to take... purely from an ethical point of view it is hard to reconcile the fact that you are treating this mans misery with your desire to take a photograph... but if you didn't take the photograph this man's life would be no better, and maybe, just maybe, a photograph like this can make people think. Maybe somewhere, it will make a difference, if not for this man, then someone like him. Sometimes you have to desensitize yourself for a while to let your concern and humanity show through.
I admire you for taking the photograph...

Yes it was hard to decide to shot and than post this photo - i know it may looks first planed - i didnt make for purpose to abuse this man misfortune - no this photo here will not help him but every eye that looks on it and feel something deep inside is better than just covering eyes...

...reading this comments - i think it has some sense to post - at least to talk about that problem

Madanaple... maybe my description is not clear... I think it is hard to take a photograph in these conditions, I'm not sure I would have the courage to do so, in fact I'm sure I wouldn't. I admire Milan for being able to take such a photograph - I believe it can only help such people if others more fortunate are made aware of their plight.
I think I am saying the same as you... maybe just not so clearly..

It surely makes people think and argue. It shows criticism, therefore it has a right to be shown, in my opinion.

Well its a good subject to discuss.I didnt want to accuse u of anything, thats just what came into my mind.
Its sad that so many people think-I cant do anything.Maybe someone else can...
Now I've noticed that u r in my age,so... I guess u really are not able to help him.
Despite it all photo, description are impressive and for sure it makes me think.

One day, when I was going home from my school, some poor man get into the bus.He was looking down and asked for help. Some of the passengers were glancing throgh the window. All he wanted was anything to eat.
I didnt have any money, but I had a chocolate.Maybe its funny but I could help him just in such way.I dont know why Im telling u that.
Its connected with your photo and I guess that here we dont talk only bout technical aspects of it but also-feelings.
I hope u understand me and dont mind sharing it with all

Sensitiva - single cannot play on saviour, one man cannot help all people - we all got our own problems to solve - but help one man you feel better and the chocolate was much more than covered eye... We all make shield to protect ourselves from sad emotions - and i think it is normal - if not we will turn to madman soon. Sad thing is that powerful people like that guys in goverment that can surely help better than my poor photo are focusing on most "important" problems than this shadows of the streets...

I will feel stupid and i dont want to write it here but i gave him some money not much - i know that he will buy some alcohol for that but if that help forget for 5 minutes...

monjo - agree this was shot with my friends cheap Sony digital camera - my own was lying home :( so i've tried to help little in photosop - but for me this is not about camera, it is about that man

This is a tear jerker...one of the most difficult situations for a photographer is to act as a correspondent to reality or as a humanist?...but as you said, you were not in the position to help him personally and I give your friend due credit for calling the police.
Like Carlos, I'll consider this post as a small documentary piece of daily life captured in a frame...sad to say...a sad one.

Very cool photojournalistic approach! Great compostion and the B&W works really well here! I agree with Carols, it's quite heartbreaking when you see this! There's this homeless man near my work who everyday, never begs for money. He simply tells everyone to smile! That's all that matters! I suppose...

Keep up the great work! :) +10
