Description

Hi everyone,

Made a bit of a mess of uploading this ;) I wasn;t sure where to put it, but it landed in Photo Manilpulation because there is a lot of photo-referencing, particularly for the citadel which is an assembly of various bits I liked of loads of buildings, bits I painted in PS, all lit/bent into perspective etc in Photoshop.

The little fella is an over-paint using a photo as reference.

I was trying to capture the magic and wonder a child feels. Its a feeling I hope I never lose ;)

Hope everyone's well!

Phil

Well done on the details in the Citadel and the child. The child is well detailed as just stated, but the hair needs to loosen up just slightly to give a more realistic feel to it. The shadow on the grass of the child is opposing the Citadels' shadow, not sure if it's correct, thought I'd mention it.

Great art....I just feel the kid is less realistic than the grass and the rest... could need more treatment, maybe some painting

I think you should have either over painted the grass or left the child as a photo (the best choice IMO)...the two styles don't quite mix here...shame really cos this is just a tad away from awesome!

This is fun to look at!

Good job.

try bringing the atmosphere on to the distant grass, the horizon needs a little haze

this looks great, someone was posting a WIPa litttle while ago with somethiong like this, dont know if it was you, well done on good job though. i think shadowless works better, the sky is brilliantly white and would give a balanced lighing anyway. also the shadow grounds the child, so the eye looks up then down then stops at the child, for me better to let eye move up and down up and down.....

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments. Tsin, the shadow was a bit of a head-scratcher alright, sometimes it is difficult to match light perfectly - it it bounces everywhere! Good point abut the brilliant white sky - it probably would give a very soft diffuse shadow. Cheers, Phil.

Dude! thats awesome! i love it! although my only small concern is that the rocks/greenery part of the floating island on the outer edges needs to be more textured and detailed, because it appears to be cut out too cleanly. other than that its a superb piece of work!

Nice work and awesome composition. This feels to me like an adult's idea of what a child imagines. A child that young would not come up with all that conglomerated detail. LOL, just my gut reaction. The concept is still sound.

I saw this over at CGTalk some tima ago... I stil love the emotional aspect of this piece. The awe and wonder and innocense are all captured and portrayed wonderully.

Top notch work!

you have an absolutely great grasp of perspective, you've exactly nailed the trickiness of distance with the citadel (which happens quite a lot to me if I view an object from the top of a slope which looks quite close but as I walk down the slope the object becomes farther) =)))

max vote from me (:

I forgot to tell my opinion on the emotional aspect, when viewed as a whole, it gives the feel of a music in the background, just like the ones played in a movie with some similar scene, a good example would be stephen king's "it" =D

Wonderful ! Here the boy has folds on his clothes (see my c&c on 'imagination') ;) I really like how the flying city tones match that of this fairly cloudy sky. Top marks too !!
