I think the bw is fine!
I just think you need to play a little with levels as it does look somewhat flat.
Also noticeable are some noise in the darker part of the cloud section (upper right and upper left) (this is on my monitor which sometimes might be totally off so

noise:
the noise was added in ps. i like the look of the classical b&w photography and the noise is essential in my opinion
color:
the color version is monotonous, cause it wasn´t good weather...
levels:
the image looks a little bit flat, cause theere was a veil of clouds beyond mountains... but you are right, maybe it will be better to spend some time, playing with curves
