Description

Finally some disney fanart! Disney animations have always been such a huge inspiration to me, I feel nervous doing fanart though because it's impossible to compare to the amazing artists who created these characters~

The Little Mermaid was rereleased recently, I picked it up right away, I remember I used to sit at home and watch disney movies over and over, only stopping in between because back then VHS tapes had to rewind haha!

This was originally just a sketch, but my friend insisted that i finish it XD
So this is dedicated to her, and to my boyfriend because he puts up with my scary addiction to cartoons, and he got me the little mermaid soundtrack *0* *happytear*

For reference, i looked at my own arm and hand, thats about it. and the cover of the little mermaid DVD to make sure she looks right.

Painter 7 / Photoshop CS2 / Wacom Intuos3 / uuhh.. around 6 hours maybe?

Thank you disney <3

P.S. Thanks for all the nice comments and helpful tips I've been getting here! I'm really touched by the warm welcome, I'm still getting used to the site though haha~ such a change from DA :)

Hm, I guess you can catch me with Arielle anytime. That's the film that pulled Disney out of the hole thanks to Howard Ashman who died much too soon.
Your version is easy to be recognized, but has enough personality of its own.
The colouring is nice and soft. It has a wonderful 3-dimensional feeling.
I wrote you something about Arielle's center of gravity before. The movement of the hair looks a bit weird. It seems to be blown from the sea into the air, but, even funnier, there is no wind in the rest of the picture. The sea is that calm and the breaking of the waves is that small, that it does not seem to be sea anymore, it looks more like a little lake. I know, in the movie the sea was very calm, too. But when Arielles hair was blown, there came this big wave ...
Oops, that sounds like a hard critique. But after all maximum points from me. Lovely picture. :)

Thank you for all the lovely comments and critiques everyone!
Thorsten, I see what you mean about the wind, i guess i didn't think about that while drawing XD; woops! thanks for pointing it out though, i'll have to try harder to keep those elements in mind :)

This is awesome, I will have to show my sister, she used to be totally obsessed with the little mermaid!

I really like how you did the water and the reflection, instead of smudging it heaps it actually has the right amount of detail, it's great!
Very impressive, well done!

wow!! only one month here and you're already Elite!!! I see why though. very good work for this one. The hair is gorgeous, same for the hand. I think those 2 elements are really the best things in the picture.
I think the highlights in the eyes don't really match with the overall lighting, but is is really a minor issue, in none at all. And I think her right arm and breast should use a little bit more work.
I love this paiting, really your best IMO. +9

Not a big fan of the movie, but if the art had looked like this, I'd like it a whole lot more. I especially like that you stayed true to the original colour palette.
