Description

my entry for the CD-design contest .
BIG EDIT - Oct.31st: I wasn't satisfied with my execution of the concept so i made some major changes. i listened to your critiques.
i planned it to be "dark ambient" or "lounge" (which is so NOT my personal taste and because of that easier to design).

i dumped a high-res version on my deviantart-account for you to view (come on, it's DA, not some serious community ;) )
if you find a typo you can keep it.

thanks to Team member, Elite, GFXartist sponsor kittyKat, GFXartist sponsor Wysiwyg and the rest of you guys for your help.

Great design.
For what it's worth, I think you should use the warmer tones :)

Brown is more smoky - my preference. But hey if you like them both make it two releases; special limited-edition blue re-release with bonus live tracks... ha / i love that we can just make this stuff up :)

Took the words out of my mouth, Rod.
I dig both. I couldn't choose which one to be the main design. If I were to BUY it, I like cold blue.

Excellent capture.

Or just make it a 2 CD set, Like back in the day when Guns and Roses made 'Use Your Illusion 1 & 2' They had a warm tone for 1 and a cool tone for 2.

hehe, great minds think alike ... i was also thinking about a double-cd ... but wouldn't bend that the ONE-cover-rule a bit far? ;)
i'll ask the big kahuna (Team member, Elite, GFXartist sponsor kittyKat)

Holy CRAP that's one fantastic cover. Looks absolutely fabulous. As for me, I'd choose the warmer colours on the left. A bit more original. Both look great though!

both look good but i think the warmer tone would do better.

Pretty cool design... I find the cold version more interesting.

The back cover is excellent, very dynamic... while the front cover is ok, but lack something to be as strong as the back one....

Well designed and developed idea. Darker toned version fits more closely with your intended music genre quite well. Smoke twirling about works good in terms of imagery, but choice of typography does not meld the two aspects together in a comprehensive manner. Use of bold fonts with muted color works, but the portion that states, "lounge obsculte", becomes lost in spacial competition with the dark areas of smoke nearby it. If those words were put white rather than black may allow them to have more presence and impact when viewed. Well done.

very nice design. Very proffesional looking.

Both are gorgeous...and both give different feelings....I have a preference for the blue one just because it makes me feel like I'm being immersed in misty frosty water like stuff...and seeing as I consider lounge kind of liquid, I find it fits....:)

I happen to think the falling text works for this...:)

Beautiful presentation!

Oh, just to say, maybe you should include one on a CD case seeing as we're supposed to do so? I don't think any of the images you've provided show them as looking like a real CD.

yeah2 both are good!!....mm i vote for the cold version.. goodluck!! :)

Avatar Kaduflyer

 10/28/06 @347

I like the warm tones better...but either way it's a great design...mind you I didn't know 'falling script was a no-no'...so what do I know!!!...lol

Good luck in the comp!
:)

thats kick ass cd cover art! yeah, Im going for the warmer one too. great work! i love it! btw, with what program did you create this?

8o wow ... thank you ... i wish i would get that helpful critique for my photographs *ducks and hides*
well, concerning your questions:
kemp - you are right - it's boring. thats why i used it: calm front to not let the caption text be drowned by the pic.
GFXartist sponsor loneorbit - the fonts issue was the hardest while working on this. i tried white text but it looked even more lost. used it on the cd instead. i think the dark font-background gives enough attention to the album title.
silken - kittykat said it was ok. i got the choose-what-to-use section in the lower third and meassurements are ok, so...
Elite WarrenLouw - only photoshop. the pictures are some of my own long exposure photographs, digitally altered.

thanks again for your many kind words and sugestions. maybe i'll rework some parts if i have time. but school's starting again on monday so my personal life is ending again ;)

cheers, daniela (B)

Even that I liked them both : ) , but part one seems more applicable for publishing porpose. I'll go for this choice.
