Description

I haven't posted anything in a LONG time. Just so much busybusybusy. And I never even finished uploading with older works - so I won't bother.

This is from my recent Galveston trip. One of my most successful photos from there. It's a long exposure infrared. Enjoy.

To Almost Human: It's a 30 second exposure - isn't really possible to get moving birds any sharper than that =P

Beautiful shot!
Love the tonalities.
Those pieces of wood logs in the water with the birds on top makes up for a perfect composition!

Edit: Infrared?! Wow, could not have known unless you would have said it...

I have a problem with the exposure... the birds wouldnt have stayed still for 5 seconds not alone 30? unless they were stuffed?

Beautiful Shot!! +10

Avatar Slapo

Are they staring at a naked seagull? It would explain why they were still for 30 secs anyway ;)

Avatar Andross

Almost Human: It's infrared - meaning, there's a major reason for the 30 seconds b/c of this. I can't exactly make the aperture larger or increase sensitivity for several reasons. A higher ISO would mean more noise, which would've been bad for this image. And b/c focusing in infrared is not an exact science (I have to focus about a foot or two nearer than under normal light), I require a good deal of depth in the shot to ensure I don't screw up. The reason for the 30 seconds is also due to my D200's strong hot mirror - it reduces the IR sensitivity of the sensor by an extreme amount, but it is still possible to record IR.

It's 30 seconds out of necessity, not choice. So I'll repeat what I said: Birds aren't going to get much sharper than that at 30 seconds.

Thank you Lenn0 and monjo - Lenn0, yup, I'm 16, I will probably be doing some sort of updated headshot/self portrait of me in the coming months, so that should do well to prove my age ;)

I'm not sure what kind of person would want to claim their 16, but then again, there are strange people in the world o.0

Thank you again!

Great photo, not sure how you got those birds to sit still for 30 secs though. Really nice use of IR on a d200 as well.

Peace,

A great composition. I like the mood of the pic. I understand the way you taked this photo and sadly it produce some noise, it would be very near to the perfection if the birds were a lilte bit sharper and the upper side of the background do not have that kinda of noise... anywway I repeat that's be cause the technique you used for the photo, overall 10/10.

Keep shooting.

Well I would Have to say that this is one of the fine IR shots that I've seen.
Very good indeed.

Avatar Andross

blackshad: I don't own an ND filter. IR was the only way I could've done long exposure, which was necessary in order to get that misty water.
