Description
Although I'm working hard on my final exam...done a lot of writing this semester 0_o ... I've been able to working on and off with a painting, "The Sword of Damocles". I was inspired by the classical greek legend about Damocles. It's finished now (I think)...The legend tells about the young Damocles, a flattering young courtier in the court of Dionysos I (4th Century BC, Syracuse) exclaimed that Dionysos, due to his great power was truly very fortunate. One day Dionysos offered him to switch place with him for a day. A banquet was held and not until the end of the day, Damocles noticed a sharpened sword hanging by a single piece of horsehair over his head. "That sword! That sword!" whispered Damocles. "Don't you see it?" "Of course I see it," said Dionysius. "I see it every day.
Dionysos taught him that to be a King is not an easy task. "If you want to be a leader, you must be willing to accept risks. They come with the power, you see." It's also a lesson in the imporance of understanding someone's experience.
