Description

an homage to Rene Magritte

ISO 100, f10, 1/200s, September 3, 2005 @ 9:43AM

Fort Pitt Steel Casting, McKeesport, PA.

Taken at the decaying and abandoned Fort Pitt Steel Casting Company. Sadly, many of these industrial giants exist in dormant states of disrepair, having been abandoned for decades following the crash of the U.S. Steel Industry in the Pittsburgh, PA region.

curious, what caused you to use ce instead of ceci? ce n'est pas un ceiling as opposed to ceci n'est pas une pipe? also whereas pipe in french is pipe, ceiling in french is plafond. although the translation issues do not change the contradiction in your image, similar to Magrittes.

Jen - hush! haha... *curses the stupid translator widget* Changed it now. Thanks for correcting my non-existent French.

Thanks Carlos. I really like this image because of the semi-abstract quality you mention. I may show the color version sometime, too. I have it somewhere... the only difference is a touch of blue between the joists. - jason

I like the way the sky appears through this... It's like you are prisoned in an isolated dark place and you can see only a part from freedom...
Very nice composition and contrast!

Guess one of those occasions where U r able to show the depth of field in the sky !! :)

Nice mood with bw and the overall idea is excellent.

Would have been even greater with an addition of a bird (silhuette of it) to add something extra for this comp...

Now where did I put my spare bird?? (jk) :)

The silhouette effect is perfect and the composition a good abstract effect. Very well done!
