Description

It has been raining here for days. I am suffering from 'cabin fever', so I finally ventured out to see the city at night in the rain. It was very difficult to get any nice shots, as the wind blew the light drizzle all over and constantly coated the lens. This shot of the Roberto Clemente Bridge across the Allegheny River was among my last. I wasn't sure when rush hour would begin and was nervous the whole time I stood there, shielding the camera with an umbrella.

ISO 100, f22, 20s, 4:55AM 16 NOV 2006 - Downtown Pittsburgh, PA looking across toward PNC Park.

lightly manipulated in PSCS2 - cropped, healing brush for two droplets, levels, hue/saturation adjustment layer.

Nice and sweet comp!

Is it the gate to heaven?! LOL
That is at least what pops up in my head when seeing this one... :p

Think though that it is to tightly cropped above the first (closest) gate.
The gate itself seems also slightly overexposed causing lack of details.

Thanks guys...

Moser - yeah, the image at this size does make the right side of the front tower look overexposed. I will be uploading a larger resolution version soon. The light actually was quite bright - even with my naked eye it was hard to make out that detail. I haven't done any HDR imagery - only read about it - and last night with blowing wind and rain was no time to experiment with it! It was also really hard after cleaning the lens about 50+ times to keep fog from ruining each shot. There's still plenty of negative space above the bridge if I were to recrop - I do like the panoramic effect, though. Thank you very much for the comments.

a fabulous capture !! Again the positioning of the camera & low angle does the trick !! Man commendable effort to be up there so early in the morning to shoot !!
Right lights & good exposure !! Composition wise the eye is lead in brilliantly !!! Only small suggestion would to experiment with a dark colored sky instead of the black one !!! +9

Very good capture for the circumstances you described!
I like the lights that they look like stars and the rest shining things.
I only think that the bridge could be a bit more centered to your frame with a tighter cropping on the left side. But again some elements that you may want us to see would disappear this way...
Still a very good night shot!

i'd go for more space to the right...to even the composition a bit...right now, to me, there's a small tilt sensation
but anyway,, the rest looks good:)

Really nice clean and sharp shot! Really nice flare from the lights, looks good. The reflections from the wet road really add to the shot. Good job!

Good work with this night shot under less than ideal conditions. I like the color tones and the effects of the lights.
