Description

Picture taken in Nahuizalco…. the same lady of my previous post…
The colors of my past. by Elite, GFXartist sponsor Madanapale

Her name is Paulina. She told me she was 85 years old….but she looks older to me.
She looks so happy because she is saying “good morning” to some friends that were passing by.

Ever since Photography was born, Portraits has been a common and popular subject.
And taking pictures of people has been considered by some from rude and exploitative to artistic , historic or documentary.
Unfortunately there are not many works analyzing the subject…..One of the few, and very complete and analytical, is “On Photography” by Susan Sontag…..
In this book Sontag analyzes most of the photography works done until today….
It would be imposible to mention all the names….she writes about 2 exhibitions at the Museum fo Modern Art of New York ( MoMA) ….“The Family of Man” put together by Edward Steichen in 1955 and “Revelations” by Diane Arbus in 1965.

Both collection of pictures are amazing and excellent in their own way……
I won’t go into Sontag’s opinion about it…..
I just wanted to say that, regardless of the motives of the authors, seeing those pictures altered and improved my view of human kind…..and that is what is important to me.

Taking pictures of people is for me a celebration!.....a way to honor the beauty ,the courage or any virtue of a human being……and also a way to acknowledge our own illnesses and problems.

A film about Diane Arbus life was released a few weeks ago…..the name of the Movie “FUR”… with Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr

Great portait. I like the colors, especially the background. She looks really old and probably had a eventful, maybe a hard life. The portait makes visible that humans just wither too.

Thank you for the description and the sources.

Shame on you Carlos! ;)

You could at least have tried to get ride of some of those wrinkles in her face using PS! LOL

Difficult to get old but this wonderful portrait proves it differently.

Thanks for your educational description!

Technically one could maybe have wished for just a little bit better focus of her eyes. :)

well gr8 work as usual Carlos !!! The colors r simply awesome on this one !!!
In a hurry so will go through the description later !!!
BTW the face isn't as sharp as rest of the pic (Man i finally put a crit on ur ART) :(
Guess time to get a faster lense/cam :) But its a too minor thing !! The timing expression & ur ability to converse with her has made this picture !!!
top marks !!!

Thanks for the comments!
I am not trying to excuse my self about the focus.....with the camera I use......a Canon powershot Pro1......I have to "Half click" and "Prefocus" on a spot and be ready to "end click" at the right time.....otherwise I miss the moment......and sometimes the subject moves and is not a the exact "prefocused" place.
ISO 50....F 3.5 Speed 1/200......may also contributed.....not enough to stop her movement as she smiled.
Anyway looks sharp enough to my 62 years old eyes!...LOL....Gush! I am so old!!
Thanks to you all!
Carlos

You did it again.
Not only a strong portrait right in the middle of the real world, revealing as it is.
But also an informative description with some personal words.
In combination: I draw my hat.

Such strong colours and a marvellous capture of her personality and charisma.
The background feels both old and post-modern at the same time and provides a great canvass. Excellent piece.
