Description
I finally finished this painting I started many months ago. The whole scene started with this medusa, her dress and the sacred lotus flower. An imaginative story about the meeting of medusa and a water nymph who tries to persuade her ( using the magic of the flower) to come closer to the edge of the water (sinister intensions.. no doubt ) somewhere in a forest far far away. The waternymph is trying to mimic the medusa to make her less suspicious. Seeing beyond the masquerade of what appears to be just a beautifully dressed woman, she takes on the appearance of a horrible creature….Initial sketching and design was done in Painter. When it was halfway done I imported it into Photoshop and never went back.

The fullsize is a must see!
So much detail in this and so much to see
The water ripples and reflection is outstandingly done
Did you paint from a life model? just curious...
Elite stuff + 10

I saw this one on your blog before I saw it here. The close-up view is indeed a must-see, so much to explore. The greens and the trees and water are just breathtaking! An unhesitated 10 for thee.

@Ramy: she’s in a morphing state (read the little story) but on the other hand you might be right
@Vincent : Life models? Something in my daily like triggers an idea, a feeling , a challenge. At that stage I have no well defined visual idea how the end result will look. I only know I want to draw/paint something that visualises that feeling. (weird?) While drawing/designing I’m chasing that “feeling” which accompanies most of my idea’s. And slowly something emerges which only prematurely starts to match that “feeling” Then I .. <boring> snip… snip</boring>.
And when I get stuck I look at photographs for inspiration like I did with this dress and the faces of the two woman. Mind you it’s always an interpretation of the photo ref. (Looking at it very carefully and then start to make my own version of it ) And the water, yeah that sort of happened by experimenting ( which I do a lot!!) The underwater plants came along when I was experimenting with a ps brush for the “mist petals” (detail left leg) etc etc… I had lots of fun but lots of frustration too now and then. (all part of the learning process ….)
@Frits : hi, nice to meet you again
