My latest attempt at digital painting. This was produced using an old commissioned pencil drawing as the starting point. I then studied a lot of my favourite artists to see if I could tap into their technique, and produced this! There are subtle texture overlays at play here as well (including photos of rust, lichen and minerals!) which I selectively erase/ enhance. That's it really, not perfect, but getting there. There was some criticism about the clouds looking a little too regular and airbrushy, (even though I never use airbrush!!) and I do agree with this in hindsight. That said, I'm happy with some of the detail and texture here and there, but I'm looking to improve with the next one...
...It's already earned me a cover job for Brit Sci Fi anthology 2000AD, so that in itself is worth the 30 hours or so I spent on this piece!!! Check out the half size version below, lots of detail on show!!
