Description

Winter sea

Snow flakes of enchantered dream silently falls
And slowly freezes the sea of winter into a scene from silvery fairytales

That girl deep in sleep on the beach...
Looks as though the Snow White surrounded by forever blooming sea chrisamthemum

Waves clash one after another like the petals of water lily
Let's halt this moment into everlasting hope
Hoping for the warm of spring, melting the ice and snow of the winter sea

Just before the complete evanescence of the rainbow from fairytales
Snow White puts on her holy wedding veil
______________________

A poor translation of a really nice Chinese poem I read in a magazine 10 years ago.

The meaning may be lost in translation, but in a nutshell, the poem describes the dreams and hopes of all girls finding their true love like in a fairytale. And as time goes by, reality sets in and it seems as though it's impossible to find The One. The author then expresses her wish at that girls will find their true love before loosing faith in fairytales.

I think it's a beautiful poem ^_^ So i dedicated this painting to it. I tried to capture the moment when "Snow White" wakes up from her sleep by the first touch of the spring.

Not personally happy with the painting, but it'll do for now. I'll come back to it and do another version of it in a couple of years, as the painting is not nearly as beautiful as the poem.

Need sleep now! 4am here in Australia. Hope you like the painting! please Comment. Thanx =)

Hmmm, I like it quite a lot...
But, for me, the discrepencies in style and degree of polish in different areas might be a bit too pronounced. I love looser, more evident brushwork (as in the dress) as much as smoother rendering (as in the face) or the airbrushiness of the skies, as an example, but perhaps there are too many different types of rendering going on?
I dunno, I think the area that really bothers me is the ground/water; it looks like a wierdly distorted photo, regardless of how it was made, and doesn't quite fit.
But, overall, I really enjoy the mood of the piece and the colors... and the figure is undeniably beautiful. :)

Awesome painting. I just feel like there must be some more details on the dress. Otherwise, flawless.

Hmm, nice. Reminds me of Wei Chen's cover for newest Exotique. :p

The girl's skin looks really nice. The rest of the image seems like a looser style though. Even if it was just the background that was looser, it would make sense to me.

I have to agree with Marta here, the resemblance is unmistakable. Was it an inspiration?

She's very pretty, her hair'S gorgeous, but we can see you duplicated the hair layer though. It's a technique I use too, when I'm too lazy to paint more strands of hair, but I make sure the duplicated layer is bigger and is in a different position than the other, so no one notices. The expression on her face is so calm, lonely, peaceful. I like it. Her clothes are too blurry IMO. Very good work! +9

thanxs for the comments, i didn't use duplicate, i used a custom made brush...which now that you mentioned, does look like duplicated, i will avoid using that brush for strands for hair. Thanks for pointing it out =D

Those colors are impressive, you got the flow of them just right. The windy effect is superb, you could actually 'feel' it if you know what I mean :) Very strong work, +10

The hair leading on from the forehead seems to be shifted down a bit, if you see what i mean. Hair raises the level of the skull line upwards as the contour of the head progresses, whilst you have in my opinion done the reverse.

Great peice though! Well done!
