Description

This is not an artwork, so I don't know if I should post it. I have been neglecting my pencil drawing, and did this for practise. I don't usually use reference to this extent, but I took a hard look at myself and I realized my techniques really suck, especially for hair ><. I have not been to any course or drawing school, so I guess I come here to get advise =) And any kind would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

4b and hb pencils used. Touched up in photoshop since it came out very weak after I took it's picture.

I love her face...especially the eyes. I think there should be a little bit of boob shading for how low this is cropped and since she doesn’t seem to be wearing a dress like in the ref pic. Right now her chest looks very bare and flat.
Over all I like it very much. She has a lovely expression.

Well, there are some very nice parts here--the eyes look quite luminous, the nose seems well-formed, etc--but if you want to create something more realistic, try to define forms with value rather than contour. I know that can be difficult when your reference lacks strong lighting, so you may have to exaggerate it, but really focus on which areas are darker and lighter than eachother. And, most importantly, try to understand why values differ--what this indicates about the form of the subject you're drawing. It might help to find/make some fairly high contrast, black and white references to work from, especially at first. Cheers!

Lovely sketch. Some of the curl tips in the hair don't look natural, a few would, but it's not like the reference. The eyes and lips and overall effect are great.
