Description

Uppsala. I’ve lived in this city all my life, and in a month I’m leaving it. Perhaps forever.

To keep a memory of this city I went to capture our greatest landmark, the great dome, biggest in northern Europe. It took almost 200 years, from 1258 to 1435 for a people haunted by the plague to raise this majestic building. It collapsed several times during that time, and they had to start anew. Since then a huge fire that covered the entire city in 1702 made both towers collapse and another rebuild had to be done. Despite all this, it stands right there, in the centre of the city, calmly, and seemingly everlasting.

Tomorrow, or the day after that, I’ll show you the inside!

Edit: I added two extra shots from outside the dome. Take a look!

Cool shot of what sounds to be quite an interesting landmark. I loooove Gothic churches, so naturally I love good photos of 'em. :) The format of this works really well; if I scroll up I get the sense I'm really gazing up at this soaring building. Talk about leading the eye heavenward! Hmm, overall it does have a rather blueish cast, though, which may or may not be intentional, so I'm just letting you know in case it's not. ;p
Can't wait to see the inside.

Dramatic clouds help create an atmosphere as viewer is guided upwards towards the aforementioned clouds. Colors guide viewer as well, foreground stonework is light in color, which contrasts well against the churchs' darker tones. Towards top though there is quite alot of barrel distortion, if corrected could make seem more complete. Nicely done.

excellent colors! i don't really like the hard distortion (but you won't be able to change it). The mood is great!!

[you could have made to shots out of it ;) ...both would be good]

nice shots! +9

The sharpness of the image is fantastic, however, the bluish sky doesn't go to well with the spires which are a similiar color. The tend to run together.

You've captured the building very well. Good details and color tones. I'd remove the bluish cast of the sky by selective saturation in PS and just have it as a dark B&W sky.

Thanks everybodey!

Yes, the distortion is rather heavy, but you should have seen my first try... This is way better.

The colors are intentional. i wanted to create some mood.

Elite, GFXartist sponsor ThruMyEyez: Interesting thought there to make the sky bw. I'll try it, but I think I like it this way.

Very nice. Normally a shot this high would probably result in suggestions for a smaller image. In this case making us scroll is appropriate and adds to the sense of height.

I find this perfect !! Just brilliant !! the color of the sky & the vertical panoroama are simply awesome !! The distortion is not much of a problem.. At the best maybe the tops r falling a bit, but still not too distracting etc !!

Execellent photo!!!! my only crit is the sky, as moserartist said the distortion is difficult to avoid... but i thought it coul make it look more closer to perfection.
