Description

This is done with a bit of pencil, and a lot of ink, on paper a bit larger than A3 size.
It was done for a contest on www.conceptart.org/forums
We had to make an illustration for a book or story of our choice. I chose the fairytale of "the twelve brothers", written down by the brothers Grimm.

Love
Marleen

Mooie tekening. Her dress seems a little bit odd, but futhermore it's nice!

Aw, I remember that fairytale, though the version I read only had seven ravens.

Nice drawing, though the light source seems ambivalent.

I love it! Very nice composition! I agree with Basw about the dress though. The face and hair could use some more work IMO. Well done anyways!

I like the ravens, but they somehow look way bigger than the girl, I don't know if this was intentionnal.
The trees look good, maybe overtextured at the bottom though.
good work

very nice atmosphere. Like the crows/ravens. think the dress should hang a bit more as it seems slightly stiff but it is a good picture

P.S did you know that ravens are the largest perching birds in the world?

thank you all a lot!
I don't really want to work on this more, but I'm taking all the crits with me. Maybe I should write a list of crits.. Yup let's do that ^^
# I had quite some trouble with the dress, I wanted it to have this shiny feeling but that didn't really come through, Maybe the reference for the dress wasn't good too.
# I totally agree with Freiz about the lightsource.. I guess some more shadows, and one main lightsource would've improved this a lot. Thanks for that!
# About the face and hair; I didn't really know what to do with them. it was a rather small surface to work on and my brush was not tiny enough. I was also just afraid to ruin it I guess.. Some more contrast would've been nice I guess.. Maybe I'll try to paint over it digitally to try some stuff out with the face and hair.
# Crazyboy; thanks for that! It was my first time trying to draw trees this way, I guess the texture on the lower part of the tree is a bit overdone, especially since it should be darker there. But when there's darkness details usually get more vague so I should've thought about that. It was my intention to draw these ravens this big, but I guess if you give it some thought, it is not realistic to draw them this big.

thanks again ^^

Marleen

I like the concept behind this, the dress is a little bit stiff but the crows rule . . . .

More of this stuff please, Iike it . . . .
