Description

Man, this took me a long time. I wonder what she's day dreaming about?
Worked really hard on this one, nearly lost my sanity too. No background (sorry everyone). Was focusing soley on my anatomy and realism of skin tones and lighting. These are all things I was having seriously problems with, (look at my picture 'Eresipele').

Huge thanks to Zack (Kalathis) for helping me with this one. He was kind and patient enough to critique me throughout most of the process so I could try and get it right. I used Christopher Hart's book 'Human Anatomy Made Amazingly Easy' for...you guessed it...the anatomy.
Enayla's tutorials were major handy too, though I couldn't seem to make any of the custom brushes she suggested.. (did the whole picture with a drop shadow brush...shhhh...dont tell anyone ;))
No references used other than a mirror when it came to the neck :p

Anyhoo, please critique me hard, I think I've sponged up everything from the tutorials so looks like the rest I'll have to learn from you lovely people ^_^

Thanks all! Hope you like it!

Excellent, It's good to see this finaly finished, you've really put the advice you've gotten to good use. you should have used a bit more red on the torso to keep the skin tones consitant, and the skin under the left eye pushes u a bit, but otherwise, lookin good.

Nice one! :) The hair could use some more work though, the nose looks a little bit off and the chin looks a little bit too small.

I've done a very quick overpaint, I hope you don't mind (just tell me if you want me to remove it) to show you what I mean :

I hope that it can help :)

Nice one anyways!

It's good, if a little stylised. You could do with deepening the shadows and making use of just a few extra highlights (especially in the eyes - they look very dry). Bear in mind that skin is not the same colour all over, try adding some deeper reds to the cheeks and nose, and some other colour around the eyes (subtlely of course). Also her gaze is sort of unfocused and she doesn't have much of an expression. Still, good work, you're improving +7/10

Wow, nice! you've made a great work from the tutorials, I wish I can learn as much as you, they're making me go mad :p
I also think you can use more skintones next time, (remember the vibrant colors) so it can have a fresher look...
You worked fantastically on the hair. :) Good work!

Thanks sooooo much for all he awesome critiques everyone! I'll see if i can make my next paintin have a person in it so i can practice a little more ^_^ Starting to realise there's a lot to skin colour. Should've realised as when doing things by hand i used about 10 different pencils for the skin :p

Diane thanks so much for the paintover, it helped me visualize where I went wrong (you're so flamin good haha)
And thank you BaronImpossible and Simbel for the tips on the skin tone.

I'll see if I can get someone to help me out with making custom brushes, hopefully that'll make things a little easier for me :p

I think the nose is a little bit too long and the mouth could be wider. I agree with Diane about the paintover. But your work is very good, the hair style is well done and beautiful and I think this is your best.

Hi. :) This is a really nice portrait. You've got potential and I can see the improvement from your earlier works here! Others have already given some great critques, but here's a little tip for you: even if you don't put in a background, never use pure white or pure black in the background. The background color has SO much effect on the colors used in the foreground. Take a minute to paint in a solid color behind your subject when you first start the picture. Nothing fancy, just get some color in there! It'll really help you figure out what colors to use for your skin tones.

Critiques already have been made... anyway, I enjoy the hair a lot. The best part of this are the lips, very sensual, agree with DreamWalker :)
