Description

Wanted to share this additional nature view from the swedish mountain captured christmas week of last year.

This was taken on my little photo safari in the mountains and just minutes after:
Winter Light by Elite moserArtist . For this work I decided to keep the color version...

These colors of the sky and the top of the trees is very much the result of my Cokin filters (very much inspired by Elite robertmekis).

I was standing close to the ice chunks next to the river so my position was not very stable :p

Normally these places are very dark and sun is up only for a few hours per day. Still this day the sun managed to reach high enough to lighten up the top part of the trees on the opposite side of the river.

Hope you will enjoy!

EXIF-values:
Exposure: 3,2 sec
Aparture: F22
ISO: 100

PS. This is NO IR! :)

;)

I like this even more than the other post. The color range is so unusual going from warm to cold tones and the details are awesome. And the blured water near the sharp trees, just great. I love it!

it's beautiful the ice surface has such a bizzare texutre color to it, I suppose it's dangerous to go out on the ice because it wouldn't freeze thick enough would it? but you imagine taking a toboggan to that. Wow! beautiful capture great senese of discovery and imagination.

Lighting is quite good, especially on trees where can followed up river and further into this scene. Mix of snow covered trees and those with basically none provides an interesting texture, instead of just snow covered. Great photo.

Awesome shot Patrick!

It looks, surreal, haunting and beautiful at the same time

The warm color change on top part of the trees is
the icing on the cake.

Avatar Traff

The contrasts work well here – the grey silky movement of the water and the bright crispness of the trees. The snow looks like it’s been sketched in and makes a great foreground – and I like the dark colour of the trees in the distance – gives the image a strong feeling of depth and perspective.
I might consider cropping a little from the top (?) I just feel the blue is a little too strong in the compo and pulls away from the wintry colours below, but you may consider that cramps the landscape too much and I know I have a tendency to ‘over-tighten’ images (gotta learn to loosen up!).

Mm... man, I miss some action in your shot. I agree that the first impression is IR, and that's awesome. I have been more "flabbergasted" by other work from you though. Nevertheless I think you are "DA KING OF GFX"!!!! You are one of the best! (I guess I became kinda independant when it comes to commenting, since I paused my postings )

Avatar Azurite

 01/24/07 @960

That's real winter beauty in all its glory. The composition is great apart from that one ark treetop in the middle of the white ones. I'd consider cloning that one away.

Also, there are some distortions around the treetops due to oversharpening. This can be solved by placing the sharpened image on a layer on top of the original and erasing the unwanted parts.

I'd like to go up to the northern parts of Sweden sometime to get shots like this.

Avatar moserArtist

 01/26/07 @592

@audentia: Thanks a lot but as already stated in my description :p...

This is NOT IR.... ;) The effect comes mainly from the usage of Cokin filters for the sky and a very special light condition I guess...

What kind of filter you have used in this image?
I really love the color .

Avatar moserArtist

 01/28/07 @417

@Ohce: I used Cokin filters: ND2 and ND4 (grey).
I used it in order to not burn the details of the sky and the tree tops when using a longer exposure time.

My really favourite from you, Patrick (but I did not see all of your contributions to GFX). The movements of water with the long time exposure are quite disturbing to me. I would have freeze () the movement with a short pose, but I guess this is only a matter of taste.

This photo is simply magical!! And really inspiring!
Incredible shot, I adore how everything looks so sharp and detailed yet the water contrast due to the long exposure time! The water almost seams unreal which I find fantastic! And the colours are so beautifull! The red/orange tones are really impressive and make a cold picture look warm! Incredible! 9/9

Avatar wizera

This one is amazing. The effect from the water is really smooth, looks just like the river froze in seconds.

Avatar LiddleLarsen

 01/13/08 @021

Took me a while to get all the way down here :)

Really like the mood..... Lots of great details....

Just wondering a little bit about the top bit of the trees as they look a bit "pinkish" on my monitor? Is this the light from the sun? :)

Avatar Varutasu

 01/14/08 @364

Very beautiful capture. Love the water most of all. Adds a sense of calm to the scene. Though with the harsh shifts in light and dark from the trees, I would of liked to of seen a version with harsher waters. It looks fake and edited in in my opinion.
Sent you a PM as well.
Always a fan,
Randall

Avatar moserArtist

 01/15/08 @552

@LiddleLarsen:
Answer to your question: Yes it is the light from the sun and with the addition of neutral gray filter to preserve the details and not loose details from burning when using the long exposure (which is seen with the smooth water).
