Description

This is a portrait shot of a friend.
He belongs to the warrior caste of Maratha.

"The Marathas" is a collective term referring to an Indo Aryan group of Hindu warriors.

The Old Marthas would sport a big mustache as a symbol of being macho & warriors. The headgear is traditionally worn by them.

He wanted to photograph himself in a similar way. So the stern pose. I have tried to capture it in a more classical way.

Experimenting with flashes these days. Used 3 flashes at 1600 ISO.
Only cloned bits of bg & converted to B&W. Rest is all camera work.

I have printed this real BIG. And the tones have come out awesome. Hope the GFX resize is doing justice to the print !!!

As usual be FRANK with ur C&C.
I am new to studio work.

Really nice to see my adoptee trying to expand his photography outside of the safety zone. I enjoy seeing you explore and diverse in your photography.

Continue to push yourself into new areas and experiment!

This man looks happy and proud (proud of his mustache or maybe of what this picture will do to his updated CV when going to his next job interview... LOL )

Love his pose!

Those light sources is something you should be using more... ;)

You're becoming quite a portraitist! Another fine image. The tension that his image creates being that far off center forces me to focus more on his features - a great accomplishment that keeps the image from becoming visually stagnant. Very strong diagonal tiers as well - the headgear, the mustache, the print on the scarf - all work to move my eye nicely. And, as John said - tonalities are "spot on". Great job. - jason

Well your previous portraits have been excellent, and this is no exception. A portrait is very hard to get right, not technically but in essence. To show someones reality is a true skill and I think you have a talent.
This guy looks very proud but is also unafraid to show his sense of humour. Good job!

Great work and your time spent on this photo really paid off. Soft shadows upon his shirt are just enough to understand the fabric without taking anything away from his face. Only concern is contrast between form and gray tone behind it, to a certain degree it works, however it makes image seem top heavy. Not that is doesn't work now just gray scale may have fit better if it were darker at bottom and lightened towards top. Never the less a strong photo.

Soft and relaxed photos do well and you hit this one on the ball. Love the white shirt, helps keep the focus on the subject. Excellent work!

Rushi I believe you portrayed this gentleman in the way he wanted and i commend you for that. besides the smile and the way you put him in the frame, i also love the fact that he has a white casual/dress shit on with the turban! 1600 ISO.. wow and i cannot see any noise it the image. well done, all the way around!

lighting is excellent and composition very well chosen.
it would be interesting so see a colour version of this portrait.
