Description
his piece was done for a tutorial on digital glazing effects I put together for Imagine Publishing's new official Corel Painter magazine. It was published in the second issue, and I hope it had a few useful insights for those who picked the mag up. I must say the folks over at Imagine Publishing seem to have their act together, and are very nice to work with.

We decided to use a photo to make the process accessible to folks who might not have the skills built up to take a sketch to that level of realism. Personally, having spent several thousand hours drawing and painting faces, I would think there is very little difference (if any ) between the final product here and what would have come out of a straight sketch, which I did for my second tutorial for the mag, in issue 3. Faces are daunting for many, and I thought it might be a bit easier for some to imagine creating those effects if they didn't have to rely on their drawing chops too heavily.
