Description

EDIT: This painting is moved by the moderators to the 'Photomanip section'. I WANT TO MAKE CLEAR TO ALL OF YOU THAT THIS IS 100% PAINTED. Thanks!

------------------------------------

About two months ago I met an extraordinary lady.
Her name is Ancilla Tilia and is the fetish Queen here in Holland.
Although she has been modelling only for two years, she is sky-rocketing and paving her way to international fame.
I am honoured to call her a personal friend of mine.

In cooperation with the t-shirt company in the US, I will design a special t-shirt line based around her.
She agreed to model for me and provide me some excellent photos which I use as reference.
These designs will be (of course) fetish oriented with fantasy/ dark art elements.
So expect to see lots of latex/rubber/leather, high heels, mutant slaves, fallen angels, and drows flooding GFX:).

Painted with Photoshop and Wacom Graphire tablet

FULLsize can be viewed here (highly recommended):

And a WIP with effin pencil work in it! Its good to see someone this good who actually doesn't paint over effin photos and then denies it with made up WIP's! Nice one.

Yep its a painting, I never said it wasn't but its a recreation of the photo reference. Side By Side And Overlay
Please see link---> Artwork Submission Guidelines Revised
scroll down to painting section
*edit*
NOTE no flamming on wallace's post. You have something to say to me shoot me a PM.

Avatar BaronImpossible

 04/21/07 @866

Oooooh, not sure about that decision. I'd be more than happy to see this back in the Painting section. If we start transfering closely ref'ed work to Photo Manip then half the Painting gallery will end up here. And it is 100% painted, so no manip involved... Come on, Ms Kat, put it back :)

Avatar ToKra

 04/21/07 @868

"5.3 Exact recreations of other people's photos / images

Detail: Even if every brush stroke is yours, an artwork consists of more than just paint. A near exact version of another person’s image is also a [[[[[recreation/copy]]]]]. These "recreations" are rejected unless the recreation is sufficiently different from the original. Links to the original material will have to be provided and permission must be granted by the original artist. You are allowed to post recreations in the forum, including links to the original material if you want others judge / recognize your technical skill."

Either put it under a 'Recreation' Category or put it back to Digital Painting - as leaving it in the Photomanip Category is highly misleading, false and immoral. let alone insulting to the artist.

to me this seems like 3d modelling doesn't look like a painting :p mwehehe, so tell us the truth, was that 3d modelled or... :p just kidding. and erm... -.- i can't consider this a photo manipulation, i would consider more 3d modelling cuz it looks really like 3d. anyhow, you did an amazing job that's for certain

Avatar Wallace

 04/21/07 @956

Okay time to respond.

First of all I would like to say thanks to all who commented this piece.

Of course, I'm disappointed with Pam's (Kittykat) decision,
BUT she was acting according to GFX rules.
This IS a painting and putting it under the photomanip section is indeed misleading, but rules are rules as such.

Please comment this piece (if you were planning to) as what it is: a painted image, and anything you have to say about the mod's decision, you can PM Pam as she has stated herself.

Thanks people!:)

Avatar Azurelle

 04/22/07 @047

You should add some photoparts to this, Vincent, to make it a real Photomanip

Avatar slickgreekgeo

 04/22/07 @049

I think it's quite disgusting that you were forced to changed the category. I could tell the difference between a paintover, a photomanipulation, and something that was referenced (such as the case with this).

George: thanks for your back up
Dean: you were???:p thanks for stopping by a second time

Avatar sdavis75

 04/22/07 @063

Yep, Photomanipulation is ABSOLUTELY THE WRONG CATEGORY! "My Profile Only" would be more appropriate, and that's where I recommend you put it, Vincent, if I will not be allowed under "Painting."

Avatar hysp

 04/22/07 @094

Avatar kayness

 04/22/07 @110

hmmm, it looks like a painting from the start.....i dont' know why the mods moved it to photomanip, but anyway it's really impressive! the dress especially. looks very realistic!

my goodness, i just noticed: her right eye is a bit bigger than her left..

Avatar killadore

 04/22/07 @583

technically it's just mindblowing. only thing i found a liiiittle bit strange was the chain on her hat that looks more like plastic than metal, hehe, i don't know if that was intended though. you did a very good job portraying her.

Avatar amoeba

 04/22/07 @616

Well done. It shows you are master of your technique! (And lucky you have such a nice life model ) My only crit would be the skin feels a bit plastic, but it could be the effect that you were aimming for....

About the categorie issue. I honestly don't see any problem with this one being in the painting section. Don't think there is any reason to call a faithful recreation "photomanip" just because it's too well done that it almost looks like a photo.

lol looks cool:) don't know excactly what you're trying to tell with that picture...but thanks!:)

Avatar fumera

 04/22/07 @673

I thought first you may had the idea with the flying skull on on her cap from this movie.

I also agree with Elite cupcake and the others that this one here belongs in the paint category. There is too much work behind it to simply shovel it in the manip. section.
love the details you addet to the composition. Fingernails, skull, collar, hip and right eye making a perfect finish.

again great job!

love the slick feel to this! very cool painting. Vincent, did you paint over a photograph? is that why it was moved?
  • claudia

Avatar Wallace

 04/22/07 @737

Hi Claudia,

thanks for your comment
Nope..it's moved because the final painted image has a more than 50% resemblence with the source material...or something like that:(

Avatar Andy--Jones

 04/22/07 @831

Why the feck was it moved??? Its not a photomanip unlike countless other elite works on here that ARE but are just totally ignored because of the stature of the artists!

Best place for this is sadly DA Vincent! Never thought Id see the day when I would say that!

Leave it where it is the rules on this site need changing as do a lot of things

Avatar deandude

 04/22/07 @854

WHY IS THIS STILL IN THE PHOTOMANIP SECTION?????????????

Avatar Thorsten

 04/22/07 @863

I don't know why all people here are hacking on KittyKat's decision. If she had followed the Artwork Submission Guidelines here, she would have to depublish and give an official warning for this posting. Instead she built Wallace golden bridges to keep this picture in the gallery - exactly what most people here wanted.

Avatar Azurelle

 04/22/07 @892

Well at least this Photomanip thing is the best publissity ever seen on this site

Avatar CodeHead

 04/22/07 @913

The ultimate decision about paint overs going into the photo manipulation category was Administrator, GFXartist sponsor Martin's. My profile only would seem like a better place for such items as they are essentially an exercise in reproduction. Nothing truly wrong with it as long as permission and such has been obtained (as would be the stated case here), but nothing truly artistic about it either.

Avatar Wallace

 04/22/07 @918

yeah but this is not a paintover:)

Avatar CodeHead

 04/22/07 @927

Well let others make the call then:
Side By Side And Overlay
Perhaps your screen name should be Xerox if you're truly that spot on.

*Edit: Updated screen shot to include sketch.

Avatar Wallace

 04/22/07 @931

I REALLY painted from scratch, the reason why its spot on is that i tend to zoom in much; haven't you checked out my WIP? Do I have to take a lie-detector test or something? I dunno...

Avatar BaronImpossible

 04/22/07 @938

Many people appear confused about this and I'm not sure why. Figure reference is something used by 99 out of 100 pro artists as a perfectly valid and accepted part of the artistic process. It requires skill and artistic talent to do well.

A paintover, on the other hand, is something that people who can't paint do to pretend they can. It requires neither skill nor talent.

Painting = good
Paintover = bad

As explained, this is a painting, not a paintover.

It's also worth saying that I for one would like to see ~

Paintings in the Painting section,
Photo Manips in the Photo Manip section, and
Paintovers in the Recycle Bin

(sorry for discussing this in your post, Wallace, but I thought I'd join in :) )

Avatar Wallace

 04/22/07 @943

Thanks Simon for jumping in.

Really appreciated!

It really bugs me that the discussion now is shifting to whether or not it's a paintover??!!
Its painted! *sigh*

Avatar Azurelle

 04/22/07 @943

Baron, very well written.

Now the overlay shows that both pictures do not match up exactly - an Vincent has done some errors on face and coloring wich wouldn't be there if he had just overpainted.
Besides - I know this guy in person, and he is a freaking good drawer!
Please check out the pencil drawing he worked from. I don't find it fair to try to expose him as any kind of cheater or such, that's just unfair.

Rules, rules, rules |(. What count is that this is a stunning piece of art, nothing more and nothing less. But there's a strange feeling for me as I watch this one : it seems like a sort of "painting" filter was applied on a photo in PS. Excuse me to be a little rude but I think it's too good to be honest... (However top marks ;))

I appreciate the time you spent going over every single detail, something I will never have the patience to do as well as most of the art community. Thanks for creating such a great work. O ya, and I say technically, the background takes up more than 50% anyways and the background is completely different from the ref, therefore, painting :)
