Description

I like old stones and ancient buildings. There are loads of them around here where I live. This scene can be seen at roughly 6 1/2 miles from my home. It's in the old city of Aubusson, Creuse (23), slightly south-west of center of France (grab an atlas !).
The bridge is called "le pont de la Terrade" and crosses over the muddy waters of the river Creuse. The medieval building is now a antiquarian shop.

4 days of works using:
Watercolours: Talens, Rowney-Manet
Brushes: Talens, Raphaël
Paper: Canson "Aquarelle Fontenay" (300g/m²)
Reference: a picture I shot with my cellular phone ! I removed few details : TV antennas and electric wires mostly.

Nice work Vincent!

as I already mentioned, watercolours are damn difficult
to handle but you seem very confident with it (thumbup)

Great colours and handling of the shadows

I have the feeling something is missing in the upper left corner
as the overall balance is a bit heavy on the right part

tres jolie:) + 9

Thx for C&C folks.
@Wallace : you are right, Vincent. If you take a look at the reference, you see that I didn't paint few buildings because I didn't want this piece to be too busy and loaded with details (there are enough of them here, no? (paint)). But now I realise I should have painted at least the one that is seen in the distance "over the bridge", on the left of picture :
By the way, Vincent, I find it MUCH MORE difficult to paint digitally than with watercolours (I know because I tried to a few times, but I don't think the results are worth seeing for the many talented artists here at GFX... :)

I think the water needs a little more lights and reflections.

I agree with cgaddict. + 10 and then some extra points for this being in watercolour wich I think is really hard to master.

Thanks everyone, from sodawax to johanflood. That said, I do not feel that watercolours is hard to master. To my opinion, it's the easiest medium and/or just a matter of feeling. You have it or you haven't, like someone playing guitar can play it with a feeling basis, like Jimi Hendrix. Or not, like Joe Satriani, who is the absolute crap to me (nothing interesting with him except a damn good technique, that's for sure). I know this is going to take me ages before I am clever enough to post anything painted digitally. But I promise I'll try.
