Description

I'm sorry I haven't been around to comment that much lately. I've been missing out on a lot of nice artworks I guess! But now I'm back again. :)

This is my latest artwork, Wish, and my first finished painting on my new monitor! Weee
It was made in Photoshop using many different references and textures. At the beginning it was meant to be a part of my new homesite layout. But I'm such a slowpoke that I'll never get finished. :p
So for now I hope you enjoy my painting. Thanks for looking and every comment is appriciated as usual!

Wish will also be included in the latest Exotique 3 book.

her hand is horrible, really isn't a problem of anatomy is about aesthetic but take a look at the reference ...her right arm... on the drawing your right arm its broken..The backgorund is beautiful.
You have awesome skills but you need to study much more harder to master on anatomy and perspective in order to be able of read the logic behind the photo reference.

Impressive. There are some slight anatomy problems, but those are very minor at best. Excellent work all around. I really like how you handle skin in your images. It's amazing what a mole here and there can do to skin, and do this in spades.

Avatar Jane

The background is great, and the woman too. There is little left to say about the good stuff, that hasn't already been said. But it disappoints me a little how close to the reference model's looks she is... Sure, it's stunning, and you are clever far beyond your age when it comes to technique. But I feel it's about time you, because you are so talented, free yourself more from the reference.

I love the variation of colours in the sky, and if it wasn't for Arik, those assholes wouldn't have bothered me. Much.
Good work with texturing the skin! The green dress cloth is too blurry in the edges, it takes away the realistic look.

Keep it up!

Very good work Sandra. The skin tones are great as are the overall color tones and background. The hand does look a bit off but I can't pinpoint exactly why. I'm just a photographer.

Absolutely stunning work, the hand doesn't seem to bother me like it bothers everyone else. Your composition and color choices are top-notch! and the expression and mood are perfect! Beautiful work!

Avatar Rafsan

 05/24/07 @331

At first sight a very nice artwork, good skintones as usual and good use of colors. Also great hair!
The sky looks good ,not great, but that doesn't bother because the lady gets all the attention.
To me whats wrong with the hand is the shape of the hand or the lack of a defined shape. What I mean is the anatomy is very good, skin over bones etc., but it needs some strong outlining.
Look at the reference and follow the same curves.

loool first of all funny comment Arik xD

k but back on topic... beautiful eyes really! i'm quite addicted to eyes... so i spend some time watching them..
her dress is awesome as well... and for the hand... when you first look at it... it isn't wrong at all ... but it might need to be a bit thicker when the hand starts from the lower arm....
the sky rocks, and so does the background... i really have to practice clouds and backgrounds more :p when i get a wacom!

Thanks for all your encouraging comments everyone! :)

klungsama: Takk! I have never seen holes in the sky, and I couldn't find any ref's either. I painted only from my imagination. But I guess your suggestion would be more realistic. :)
slickgreekgeo: I've done a lot of effort and studies on how to paint skin, so I'm glad you notice. ^_^
nick: *smooch!*
jane: Thank you for your nice comment. :) I am very aware I should free myself from my references, there's just so much else I wanna learn meanwhile! (Like texturing, colors, shading, composition) and when I'm using a ref I can focus more on those things. But from this moment I'm gonna try using less refs.
ViolentContact: Oh sure! I'm honoured
Rafsan: Thank you. I guess the problem with my hand is that it looks more like a sausage-hand than a real hand. :p The nxt time I paint hands I will follow your advice. :)
XeriuX: Go get wacom now!

Great work Sandra

as mentioned the face is beautifully done.
Yes, the hand could use a bit improvement;
I think its a bit too big and too well defined at the knuckles,
would soften it a bit more to match her lovely face.

The textures on her left arm/shoulder is a bit distracting.

Great composition and background, feels epic:)

realy good job i think for a good picture where a person is involved it is 50%
the face eyes (what is that persoon thinking meanig to say feeling of that person) most important and than details of the others like backgrounds and so

that is olso what i most like on this picture

Her darker arm isn't smoothed well. Is there any purpose ?

Beside, the rest is excellent. Her face is really beautiful and guess you must have worked hard on the texture. Your choice of colours is really amazing and I can see the colour harmony between the girl and the background. But the way you rendered the sky and the shooting stars turned out to remind me of the background of some star war scenes rather than a breeze of romance which should be here. The star holes don't need such much work, while I think one star is enough :).

Keep up good work +8/9 (thumbup).

Avatar SandraS

 05/25/07 @455

Wallace: Your input is always very precious to me. Thanks!
rockscorp: I agree. I love eyes, and if the eyes are well painted in a portrait, it's not a big deal if the rest of the face is bad. :)
mysticcat: Because I got bored. :p Yes I know, it's a pathetic excuse. I just could't paint more! Thank you for your wonderful words.

And to the rest: I cannot say enough thanks. Even if I don't reply back to your comment here, it doesn't mean I don't care of them! I'm very delighted from your words, and I will always return the comment. :)

Oh wow, this is really gorgeous! I'm jealous!

I adore the colours you've used here! The sort of teal colour and the brown... they look very nice together, and really give the picture some atmosphere IMO. Also, really interesting shirt design! I love the three different straps. Definitely very original.

I have not commented on this!?
gasp! I cannot believe it
this is an outstanding piece!
the background reminds me a bit of "mona lisa"'s background
there is something odd about the way her head is attached to her neck...maybe slightly different shading/lightsource?
anyway, great work! top marks for you

Avatar SandraS

 05/29/07 @630

Lol! I'm glad you all like it.
Kayness, yes it's true I was inspired by Mona Lisa. My boyfriend once told me that she doesn't look very well integrated into the landscape. I replied it was supposed to be like Mona Lisa (partly true, partly an excuse. :p ).

I think what I like best about this aside from the composition and sheer skill, are the colors. The colors in her skin, in the background - the allover greenish scheme brings them together just perfectly.

And the willfullness and determinaton in her eyes.. Truly a wonderful image =)

This is a an excellent work,
& even more for having been
made at 19/20. Critiques
are unnecessary, because
the achievement of this in the
given context implies the
ability/motivation to reach
whatever level of "perfection"
is necessary.

The hair, the eyes, the face, and the background are EPIC, as well as the concept. The rest of her body is good too, it just looks a little rough. I don't know how much time you spent on it, and i'm not trying to say that it was a waste either, i just think that with a little more time spent, you could really soften up the rest, and bring it to a phenominal level.
