Some parts aren't very well integrated and make the piece a bit artificial... looks more like a design than a landscape.
The surfaces aren't very affected for the volcanic river also , I mean , where's the radiosity ?
About originality... don't use those brushes 'levy' style.. are very common in present days.
And off course... my favourite words "too flat"
You can do it much better man.
Nice experiment by the way.

Gday phil,
I have to agree with  Alfil to a degree about the integration, but that's only referring to the top 3 arcs under the partially exposed sky. Apart from that i think the image is fantastic, looks a lot like the way David Levy constructs an image too.

As always i love the glowing effects you create. Should post a larger res one mate :) Sent you a quick pm by the way

Very nice!. I went for the same kind of colour scheme with my latest piece using complementary colours but You've executed it perfectly.

Thanks for the comments guys- I actually wrote a description when I uploaded the image but forgot to hit the save button- I'm super busy with a book cover, magic card and prepping materials for 2 books. One is a story Art of book and the other is more a tutorial/text book type thing on art fundamentals.

This was a speed painting and yes I did use one of the Levy brushes as well as a ton of my own. I don't like to divulge how long a painting took me since I think its generally irrelevant but, since this was a speedy I can tell you I think it clocked in around 3 hours.

Thanks for looking.

Phil

EX-CEL-LENT... I don't think I really understand what it represents, but I see there is lava and a little piece of open sky. Stunning colors and geometrical things getting a bit out of this chaos (a (space)ship sinking ?). I LOVE it. Top marks

Speed painting? Holy crap, that is so much detail! I can't believe 3 hours is how long it took, wonderful...I guess you have to be that fast to be writing a book...sounds great, good luck in New York!
