Description

I started to scribble a bit to warm up for today's painting session, but the scribble developed a bit further.

Inspired by George MacDonald's "At the Back of the North Wind".

@vikinggirl: Yep, I agree. But to practice technique and to get into the flow, I prefer painting something I'm comfortable with, even if it's just a boring portrait of a chick.

Uh, but I'm confused why you criticise this, while the two paintings you posted in your gallery show the same.

I agree about the first one but actually I am talking about the style... I don't know... the fantasy sort of theme... There is too much of it! And don't take it personally it's just that you posted right after me so I happened to see it! :) .... Anyway... Continue painting!!!!

@vikinggirl: Ah, right, I understand. Well, 98% of what I paint is Fantasy. I guess one either loves it or hates it. I keep forgetting that not all galleries that I visit have F/SF as their focus :)

The hair is AMAZING. I think the skin is very grainy to be honest, looks like the grain filter in PS to me, I wish the skin had parts that had pores visible and others where it is smooth much like real facial skin. The lighting is excellent in the face, you definitely have that down... overall, a good study, practice technique all you want, but it lends to be a bad finished work so present it as it should be, a study. +8/10
