hmm...the composition seems very forced and obvious. There's a burning castle in the background and a dragon in the foreground with wounds. A battle, obvious. It's neither dynamic or full of depth, you just have two visual planes: foreground and background with nothing but black inbetween. The clouds don't fit the lighting of the scene. Being so close to the dragon too we notice how undetailed the mouth is, that the scales are too perfect, and how posed the look in its eyes are. I love your dragons but I think you took a step far back with this one. +5/10 Sorry for harsh critique.

Thanks Gary, Pedro:)

Louisa: thanks for you in depth crit, really appreciated.
Well i think this is about choices, The thing with the castle is obvious for some (including you), but less obvious for others, as I see the comments on DA. I like the fact that the two elements are separated BUT linked with eachother, through the scars on the dragon and the arrows, it makes you think what has happened and how the battle could have been, needless to say the dragon has won:)

About the mouth..hmm...have you took a look at the bigger sized image? You would see more textures (including veins) inside the mouth, on the tongue and on the teeth.

The scales are too perfect...yep...I have the intention to make them a bit more dirty and scarred.

The plain back background is in fact a practical choice as it would make the dragon pop out more when printed on the tee's.

But I can understand your point:)

Thanks again, its really appreciated:)

WOW!!! I really like your dragons. Really impresive work. How much time does´t it take you to make it? Thanks. Top marks by the way.

Burning building...this job calls for Matias! hehe
The two sides of the dragon's head aren't symmetrical so the percepiton is a bit off there.. otherwise cool painting (thumbup)

Wow. Well, I don't think we can fault you for neglecting details, Wallace. ;) I think my favorite part is around the forehead and top of the neck, because the transition from cooler to warmer colors is very appealing, and there's lots of yummy texture, too. I hope all the subtle color and value shifts come out in the various prints.
One thing I'm curious about: when printed on tees, do your illustrations retain a rectangular format, or are adjustments made to make them seem less boxed in? Obviously, this works for prints and posters and the like, but I think it would be really cool to have more organic shapes for something like a shirt... don't know if you have any control over that, though. Of course, there are your animals tearing through... hmm, I think I'm just rambling. :p
As to the regularity of the scales, have you ever considered doing a mechanical dragon?

The pink of the mouth isn't really fitting and there's too much black on the right side but otherwise it's very good !

Thanks people for all your nice and helpful crits.

About the textures, I really would like to advice you to see the larger picture, much of the textures is lost here...:(

I am now altering the background, putting in hills in the black space and make the castle less stand alone.

stay tuned, will upload it shortly:)

EDIT: Adjustments are done:)

Very good! Great details, lighting is beautiful. Better let the owner's of the arrows know they should go bigger if they expect to take down this bad boy.

Avatar IraMelanox

 10/27/07 @430

Nice dragon and details, as usual Vince (thumbup) what i don't like about it is that it looks a bit flat, maybe because of the lighting. his left nostril should have a highlight, i think, and also his lower jaw should have some light on it. Still, you did a great job !

I dont need to examine the larger version to still pretty much agree with the issue of the lack-of-detail inside the mouth, regardless of the fact that you HAVE indeed put in much detail there, they are too small... being that none of us have seen a dragon in real life, we cannot say for sure, but I would assume that such a large body cavity such as a giant lizards mouth would have much more 'structure' to it, much like our own tongues (look in the mirror, lift your tongue :p) ... see, exactly what seems to be lacking in reference to 'detail' inside of the mouth (imo), those structual muscle, gums, pits and crevices. What you have here is more like what a toy maker would design the inside of a toy dragon as, to lessen production costs (making an advanced mould of the inside of the mouth.. etc), and that that part is most likely to go un-noticed by untrained eyes (lol, what many on this site obviously do have ;) )

Great job non-the-less, I just thought i'd clarify what I beleive was others issue with that part.

I am, however, not a fan of the scale's details at all, looks 100% flat, completely lacking 3dimentional texture ... if this was in a game, I wouldnt complain at all .. but as a stand alone image, I'm left unsatisfied with the detail there. HOWEVER, I adore your handling of the sunlight and its fade!
High Marks.
